Beatles remastered albums what's best? Mono or Stereo?

Thoughts_ArriveThoughts_Arrive Melbourne, Australia Posts: 15,165
What are your thoughts?
I prefer the sound of the mono remasters.
I have been listening to The Beatles a lot recently. I used to not be a fan, funny how things change as you age.
What are your top 5 albums?

Mono for sure. The stereo mixes are pretty terrible, especially if you listen to them on headphones.

Top five, in no particular order : Revolver, Abbey Road, White Album, Sgt. Pepper and Let it Be.

Mono because they were mixed for mono at the time of release (up until the last couple albums). Stereo sounds great too though.

My top 5 Beatles albums are to me the top 5 albums ever made:

    1- Revolver
    2- Sgt. Pepper's
    3- Abbey Road
    4- Rubber Soul
    5- The Beatles (white album)

It's a shame the mono albums are not sold individually. Only stereo remasters are. I can't afford $200 for the mono box set right now, I would if I could.

    @Thoughts_Arrive

They have been sold individually. I know because I only have Revolver and Sgt Peppers.

I thought they were offered at one point, but I'm not sure because I got the whole set through mP3 when they were first released.

Mono 45's are my favorite way to listen to The Beatles- probably because I grew up on them that way.

As far as albums go, my favorites:

    1. Revolver
    1. Rubber Soul
    1. Yesterday and Today
    1. A Hard Day's Night
    2. Abbey Road
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

Just picked up the sealed Japanese import for $80 off eBay. I read up that the US, UK and Japanese ones are legit. I did have a moment of panic hoping I didn't buy the counterfeit one, but the UPC on the photo the seller took matched the UPC I found on Discogs. I had no clue these were 'limited edition' boxsets. Sounds like it gave way to some really terrible Chinese fakes - which I also saw on eBay for $30 a piece. Yikes!

You are correct. There are no mono versions of abbey road or let it be, they were recorded and released only in stereo

I got an email from PopMarket.com back on September 20th. They had the Mono CD Box Set on sale for $99.98 for a 24 hour period. I thought about it but I couldn't pull the trigger.

What's the best way to tell if you've got a counterfeit? Serial number? Need to check mine when I get home I guess.

There are a ton of videos on YouTube and DQ on the Steve Hoffman forums that all point to the same 4-5 issues that confirm it's a fake.

From what I've researched, if you paid less than $100 sealed for yours, it's a fake.

Anybody pick up the new Sgt. Pepper set? I'm never big on reissues or remixing classic albums but I get it. This sounds incredible to me. Not as great as the mono set remastered...but it's good. The bass is quite upfront in this mix and it shows how underrated Paul was on the bass.

I bought the album only. I am blown away with it.
I was very disappointed in the 2009 stereo reissue.
This keeps the awesomeness of the mono and makes it better.
She's Leaving Home and Within You Without You gave me ear orgasm.

Yes!!! Those are the two standouts for me as well! Thestribgs on She's Leaving Home are so amazing. It feels like you're in the room when they were recorded. So clean and pure.

Am I hearing a difference in John's vox on Lucy? It seems perhaps a smidge higher...but it's trippy as hell!
