Not even close in my opinion. I'm sure someone else will have the opposite opinion. I actually dug when Cornell did Footsteps on Fallon with the Avett Bros.

completely agree. i was just thinking about it, since i'm spinning TOTD right now. i have read praises here and there throughout the years, and wondered how these two bands compare musically. personnel? ok, i get that. sonically? no question whatsoever in my mind.

Thanks to BMG music subscription - my Dad gave me a TOTD tape in 199? and this was one of my faves from the record, still is.

I didn't hear Footsteps years later & didn't put it together that it wasn't Ed and Stone covering TOT.

TOTD has a couple of real gems on it. It would be amazing if they collaborate with Cornell on something in the future.

TOTD is not a bad album, by any stretch of the imagination. solid stuff. i like every piece of it. but... Footsteps is without question, my favorite piece in the PJ catalog. I have often wondered... would Times of Trouble have even existed were it not for the Momma/Son? like, maybe since Cornell wanted that song on "Andy's" album, perhaps that's why EV/SG/JA left it off of Ten? curious to thoughts of fans.

Not even close here either. I never really got TOTD. Actually, same thing with Footsteps. I hated listening to it on the boots - It wasn't until I saw it live in Vancouver '05 that the song actually hit me.

Heh heh. Well... what can i say? I like them both fine, but have always thought that Footsteps is a bit boring. I know a lot of people LOVE it. Some even call it their favorite PJ song... i just don't get it. It's okay. Good song. I thought it was only alright live. Times of Trouble is also okay... pretty good. I find it slightly more interesting, so wins by a hair. I guess. Maybe i just think that because i hear it way less often, and am simply more bored with Footsteps. I could really go either way, and voted for the underdog I suppose.

Love both songs.. edge goes to Footsteps because the first time I ever heard it, the lyrics just resonated with me. It came at a time when I needed it.

Was really hoping for back to back Footsteps -> Times of Trouble at Cornell's solo shows, but that didn't happen because he played the better of the 2.

No doubt. I don't think I have ever heard any TOTD reunion do Times of Trouble but I wish they would. I have to say.. the most recent reunion at the Sonic Evolutions/Mad Season show was the best I have ever heard with amazing versions of Reach Down and Call Me a Dog. Chris was totally on that night and also killed River of Deceit. Either way...great versions by my two all time favorite lead vocalists.

Stone wrote the music first... apparently both Ed and Chris wrote different lyrics at around the same time. I personally didn't hear Footsteps until years after I heard Times of Trouble...kinda like Chris.
