Where ever pj go on stage to play is a good thing in my book......the only sure thing is that they not gonna ask anyones permition to do what they want
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
    "..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."

It was fun to see The Who play. I'd be fine if PJ played. It is what it is. You make it sound like they didn't "whore" themselves to advertise Lightning Bolt by doing 30 minute specials on any channel that would accept them. It's the way of the world, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it (and it's also not "whoring." If your livelihood is getting others to purchase your art, part of the deal is letting them know it exists).
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

PJ would never play pre-recorded, period. So that probably ends their chances.

    Yip.

End of the day it's their decision (if ever asked). If they thought it was cool to do then they'd do it. No need for us fans to get uptight about this kind of thing.

    when did this "policy" start?
I thought Tom Petty and the Who were playing everything live.
maybe I just don't pay close attention........
and The SB halftime show has been terrible lately...
Madonna, black eyed peas, beyonce, Bruno mars......... %-(

As for PJ...0% chance they play if this policy is in effect.

You don't have to worry about it this season. The 3 finalists are Katy Perry, Rihanna and Coldplay. On top of that NBC is requesting the chosen artist contribute a portion of their post SB tour income to the NFL. I cant imagine PJ would ever agree to that.

I really don't see the big deal if they want to lip sync or air guitar or whatever during the Super Bowl. As long as they continue to put out great music and play live at their shows, I'm happy.

I can't imagine any of the three artists you mentioned agreeing to that. As far as I know, none of the three are having any problems selling tickets.

Yeah me too. The only Super Bowl halftime show I ever enjoyed was when WWF had The Rock and Mankind fight in an empty arena at halftime of Super Bowl 34

I have no problem with Pearl Jam playing the Super Bowl. The pre-taping of the music seems to be more of a logistical issue than any other reason.

If we only wanted live music, why do we beg for more DVD's and bootlegs? I would assume if Ed announced he was going to do PJ karoake at a bar one night, a thousand of us would show up.

Karaoke and lip synching isn't the same thing....

I feel confident saying that Pearl Jam would never lip synch a show like is done at the Superbowl. And now that the NFL wants bands to pay to play there, it makes it even more unlikely that PJ would do this.

lol that would be a messy scene thousands of PJ fans many of whom might of had too many, Eddie might need the whole security team for that

I would agree. I think though with the Super Bowl there is a bona fide reason for pre-recording the music. It almost like you have to do it at an event like that versus a music video. So I could see Pearl Jam being okay with the Super Bowl.

I gotta support the spirit of this thread. None of us want to think PJ would "sell out" for a wheel barrel full of cash. That's the kind of Cadillac the NFL can park at their door. but at the same time I would never lose an Iota of respect for PJ if they did play the Super Bowl. Hell, I might actually watch it. I watched last years purely because Seattle was in it. No, if they do it one time I would support that decision because they have earned my respect and admiration on too many levels. But I don't want to see it happen. It would be great however if Eddie did some kind Grammy Redux. He walks out there, climbs the goal post, tells all the fans how meaningless this all really is, then tells Dick Chainey to go fuck himself. What a dream come true that would be!

    In joyous part. :-c
I remember when, yeah. I swore I knew everything, oh yeah.

If the NFL was serious about taking the Super Bowl to the next Level, they would do a 3 hour halftime and let PJ do a full 30 song set with two encores. Now that would be a ratings bonanza. And let PJ do a 10C lotto for field tickets. Can you imagine the bitching from fans not getting tickets to the Super Bowl/PJ concert? Would be a very tough ticket to come by. We're talking $1000 for the worst seat.
There's no need to say goodbye
