For those of you that have used americanframe.com to frame prints, how are they? Do you have to assemble these? According to the website it seems you do.

Yes you have to do the assembly, but I've used them a bunch of times for multiple types of prints and always been satisfied.

I've framed about 20 posters using americanframe. The frames come preassembled unless you order a frame for a very print large. Most concert posters do not fall into that category. They provide everything you need to frame you poster, except a way to attach it to the mounting board. Just attach the poster to the mounting board, put mat then acrylic then frame over it. There are clips in for the back to secure everything but they are kind of flimsy. Pm me of you have any specific questions.

Let me clarify that, wooden frames under a certain size are assembled, metal ones are not.

Yeah, definitely go for it. I've ordered from them a couple times and have been totally satisfied with the price, service, and most importantly, the results.

I'm curious -- what does everyone use to attach the poster to the mounting board? I've tried a couple things with mixed results.

Hoping someone can answer this. I bought a frame from American Frame and from what I can tell, the archival mountain board is the last piece to put in and is the back of the frame...is this correct?

I guess I'm trying to figure out where you would put the hanging brackets. I doubt they would be attached to the archival board.

    Thanks!

I never use tape. I use archival mounting corners.

I've used them numerous times. They are good. Some frames require assembly, but most of mine have not. I do notice however they tend to cut the mattes a bit large. I usually enter the measurements a bit smaller so the matte will fit better. Exact measurements usually gets me one that are a hair too big.

Oh, and as far as AF goes, they're great. I really enjoy ordering from them.

Hi all, new to doing my own framing and I am considering using American Frame and am hoping to match how I have some of my other prints matched. I am looking to do a double mat with the top mat being black and the bottom mat being a color that ties to the poster.

I got a sample pack of acid free mats and these would be in direct contact with the poster. However, they do not have a black mat with white core that is acid free. They do however have that in their General Purpose Mat line. It's item E4089. They said that any of the mats with an 'E' are ones that have an acid free back and core, but that the top black color is not acid free.

My question is will it matter if I use the E4089 as a top mat since it will not be in direct contact with the poster?

    Thanks.

The basic boards(general purpose) that would contact the print are listed as having an acid free backing:

"An economical mat for non-archival framing, this line features selections from Bainbridge NovaCore, Papermat and Crescent Berkshire lines. This line has an acid free backing and is available with a light cream, black or white core. With its range of popular colors and quality material, it is the choice for affordable framing. 4ply (1/16”)"

PS You should be fine either way
"Populated with every reject and cutthroat from Bombay to Calcutta. It's worse than Detroit."

I've used them a lot over the years and they have nice frames. Their support people are very helpful too, and they offer free shipping for orders over $125 and 20% off some black wood frames now.
If you order a mounting board, don't peel the paper off all at once. Roll your poster onto the paper a few inches at a time, it will be easier to handle and prevent creases.
I escaped it...a life wasted...I'm never going back again

Are you referring to a using a mounting board with adhesive? Not really a fan of that. I just order the foam backer board... No adhesive.

I am probably going to do my next few with American Frame. I did some frames with the Hoff where he did an outstanding job... and the most recent frames I splurged at Michaels, which is costly. American Frame is a good option

I've had no issues with AF in the past, although I'd rather give my business to Hoff. He does an incredible job.
