  • i'll probably be repeating most or all of these... but i don't feel like reading so here goes...

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - Smashing Pumpkins
    The Wall - Pink Floyd
In Your Honor - foo fighters
Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. 2 (not a real album... but amazinnnnng)
The White Album (zee first double album in fact)

Machina/Machina II - Smashing Pumpkins... not really a double album... it was going to be.. but after the sales from Adore flopped (despite it's own brilliance) that was too risky... so they just released the second part dubbed Machina II for free over the internet... really i think because of that most of the very best songs got shipped to Machina.. making it amazing... but lackign that balance that would prompt me to call it a double album.

the new Chili Peppers' record Stadium Arcadium will be... :)
Come on pilgrim you know he loves you..

waiting for columbus - little feat
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green
  • Nick Cave - Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus

I am admittedly not a huge fan of the double album, with obvious exceptions, more often than not I find they don't work out too well.

Man...but that's the best double album of all times!!! Excelent taste!!
I feel very close to you all now; so close I could almost... loan you money. Really. it goes that deep.

Ben Harper - Live from Mars
E agora? Faz xixi na mão e deita fora!
  • Well, we all know the best double albums are Pearl Jam's Lost Dogs and Rearviewmirror:Greatest Hits, as well as a ton of live stuff they put out, but let's not forget:

Jerry Cantrell - "Degredation Trip Volumes 1&2"
Nine Inch Nails - "The Fragile"
    Led Zeppelin - "Physical Graffiti"
    System of a Down - "Mezmerize/Hypnotize"
Foo Fighters - "In Your Honor"

There are some others but can't think of any right now...
    "Darth Vader would say 'Impressive'."

  • ok i know my nick is london calling, but if you take the bullshit out of Sandanista and made it a double album instead of a triple, it is probably the best piece of work by the Clash.
  • Yep Physical Graffiti for sure.

And the Wall, if it hasn't been mentioned already.

I don't think Lost Dogs counts, because its not really an album, just a compliation of old songs that were never released on other albums. Live from Mars hardly counts as an album either, although it is my favourite Ben Harper stuff.
It doesn't matter if you're male, female, or confused; black, white, brown, red, green, yellow; gay, lesbian; redneck cop, stoned; ugly; military style, doggy style; fat, rich or poor; vegetarian or cannibal; bum, hippie, virgin; famous or drunk-you're either an asshole or you're not!

  • Live albums and greatest albums shouldn't count because the songs on the discs are by default great music from the band. Would a band put together their crapiest music and play it live to record? I doubt it. I think one could certainly say, "who has the best live record?" because then you are comparing apples to apples. Comparing stuff in the studio and stuff on stage is apples to oranges. And obviously a greatest hits record is the greatest from the band, how can that be compared to something that was written at once and not pre-selected from many, many albums based on record sales?

Not a big deal really, just my opinion.

being that im only 15, these are the albums i know to be doubles on CD:

    Foo Fighters-In Your Honor
    The Beatles-White Album
    Guns n Roses-Use Your Illusions I/II
    Led Zeppelin-Physical Graffiti
The Clash-Sandinista!(yeah its excessive, but its got some of the best Clash songs out there)

and I know the Clash's London Calling was double on vinyl and thats just simply one of the greatest albums of all time
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

    Some die just to live.
