Their debut is amazing, their second one has some good songs and their new one is probably about the same as their second. If you like them definitely pick up their debut, "Is This It?", one of the best albums of the 2000s and one of the better rock debuts of the past 15-20-however many years.

Do you like it more than "Is This It?"

masterpiece? i have to disagree..they are great at writing catchy tunes...but that record is not masterpiece material surely...

Ten was a masterpiece...OK Computer was a masterpiece..Dark Side of The Moon was a masterpiece..

    First Impressions? No way..

    ;)

  • Masterpiece is steep. But I think it is a pretty damn good album. Not better than Is This It? I thought they looked really good on SNL. Sounded perfect.

I like their first album the most, but this one definitly has me more intrigued and I am enjoying it more than the 2nd one they released. This one has more legs

I don't like the new record. It's weird with the Strokes and me. I like about half of their songs, but I hate the other half. If I liked half of them and kinda liked the other half it would be all good but they have a tendency to write songs that really get on my nerves. Best example is Other Side.

New album is deadly. It's the first Strokes album that Ive liked straight away after listening to it.

  • I think the new record is perhaps 2 songs too long, otherwise it would've been masterpiece material. But its probably got the best opener of any record I've heard.
    "I am a doughnut." (live - Berlin, Germany - 11/03/96)

"Behave like rock stars - not like the President." (live - Noblesville, IN - 8/17/98)

    --Ed

"Yeah, I was gonna learn to play it (Breath) but somebody slipped me a bottle of viagra and was busy doing something else six times last night" (live - New York, NY - 9/10/98)

    --Ed

  • And I don't think they get enough credit as musicians, Nick the lead guitarist is amazing, he can fret with the best of them, and Fab is a very good drummer.

    For me, it is:

    1. First Impressions of earth
    2. Room on fire
    3. Is this it?

I love bands who can keep on getting better.

Funny that you say that. It's the opener that makes me wanna turn it off right away. It's this "I want to break free" theme and that they just ripped it and put it right at the beginning of the record is a bit much for me to be honest.

I honestly thought they sounded really good and tight. It seemed like his voice was very raspy. Although I was a little out of it at the time, I loved, I cranked it up at my friends during the card game.
