I'll be honest. I don't have time to stay around this thread as much as I liked. Futhermore, I'm not as awesome as N - it is probably the sparsest letter in my collection. To compound that, the 2 choices I had were a) an obtuse grindcore album (Napalm Death's "Scum") and a death metal album (Nile's "In Their Darkened Shrines"). SInce I picked a pretty heavy album last time, and since we all should know about Neil Young and the New Pornographers and Neutral Milk Hotel, I decided to go with something very kitschy. It doesn't have a lot of replay value, and will never make list of any of my majorly favourite things. But it is really great for what it is. You should get a laugh out of it and have an enjoyable time.
So we all played the NES, right? Totally dug the 8-bits sounds? The mario theme ad naseum, and so on, and so forth - well, I know we also like popular music. And someone else knew that as well. This other man, he knew alittle bit more than I do. He knew how to manipulate the Nintendo's sound chip to make noises. He routed it into a synth, an lo and behold, created VERY accurate covers, both to the original, and to the 8 bit sounds. There's a pretty wide selection of mostly popular rock songs. If you've ever wanted to hear how Bohemian Rhapsody, Karma Police, Yellow, or Angel Of Death would sound on a NES, here is your chance.
Nice and light listen, but goddamn whoever arranged these has a lot of talent for it. Sorry if you were expecting something deeper, though.

my first thought was that you were referring to the band, The Advantage, who do NES covers a la math rock style. But it turns out it the polar opposite. I'm intrigued....."I wanna believe in the mercy of the world again."

Do they have more than just the Bubble Bobble theme? I thought it was just some one-off random thing. Maybe not.... that's be cool.0 -
This should be a laugh, I have a ton of The Moog Cookbooks crazy covers, so this sounds interesting.:)Can not be arsed with life no more.0

heh I'm really intrigued, Echoes."What’s Orphans? I don’t know. Orphans is a dead end kid driving a coffin with big tires across the Ohio River wearing welding goggles and a wife beater with a lit firecracker in his ear." - Tom Waits0

I would just like to thank you for not subjecting me to Scum
Of course peoples reactions to it would have been interesting to say the least.

No kidding. I quite like Scum, but felt it would have been met with a LOT of Bile here.printf("shiver in eternal darkness\n");0 -
Sounds interesting. You should check out the minibosses. http://www.minibosses.com
I've been a pretty big fan of them for a while. There are a ton of NES cover bands, but they have to be the best by far. Anyways, I look forward to those uploads.9/17/95-New Orleans,LA 8/14/00-New Orleans,LA 4/8/03-New Orleans,LA 4/13/03-Tampa,FL 10/8/04-Kissimmee,FL 8/5/07-Chicago,IL 6/16/08-Columbia,SC 6/23/09-(EV Solo)Atlanta,GA 5/1/10-New Orleans,LA 9/21/12-Pensacola,FL 11/1/13-New Orleans,LA 4/11/16-Tampa,FL 4/23/16-New Orleans,LA

Don't really have much to say, but the 'Closing time' version put a smile on my face.'Go easy, step lightly, stay free!'

I don't see anyone who didn't play a lot of NES games getting into this, but as someone who wore out their old NES when they were younger, this is some amazing stuff. The Punch-Out!! sounds that supply the rhythm section on Kashmir are a hoot.0

definitely a fun addition to my music collection. brought a smile to my face and i'll probably keep it around just to have as a nice changeup when i have my music on shuffle. thanks, Echoes.0

The Advantage have two full-lengths out. I haven't heard the newest one, but the first one is awesome.
http://www.amazon.com/Advantage/dp/B0001LYFA4/sr=8-1/qid=1165698256/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-6701383-6664140?ie=UTF8&s=music
They are also amazing live. I saw them open for Pinback a few years ago and it was incredible. One of the two founding members of Hella plays drums for the Advantage.
Regarding NESCover, it's actually really impressive, albiet simplified versions of classic songs. I really enjoyed Kashmir and, surpisingly, I have a new-found respect for the song, "Closing Time." Best version ever!"I wanna believe in the mercy of the world again."

I love "Losing My Religion" and "Karma Police""What’s Orphans? I don’t know. Orphans is a dead end kid driving a coffin with big tires across the Ohio River wearing welding goggles and a wife beater with a lit firecracker in his ear." - Tom Waits0 -
