I'll be honest. I don't have time to stay around this thread as much as I liked. Futhermore, I'm not as awesome as N - it is probably the sparsest letter in my collection. To compound that, the 2 choices I had were a) an obtuse grindcore album (Napalm Death's "Scum") and a death metal album (Nile's "In Their Darkened Shrines"). SInce I picked a pretty heavy album last time, and since we all should know about Neil Young and the New Pornographers and Neutral Milk Hotel, I decided to go with something very kitschy. It doesn't have a lot of replay value, and will never make list of any of my majorly favourite things. But it is really great for what it is. You should get a laugh out of it and have an enjoyable time.
So we all played the NES, right? Totally dug the 8-bits sounds? The mario theme ad naseum, and so on, and so forth - well, I know we also like popular music. And someone else knew that as well. This other man, he knew alittle bit more than I do. He knew how to manipulate the Nintendo's sound chip to make noises. He routed it into a synth, an lo and behold, created VERY accurate covers, both to the original, and to the 8 bit sounds. There's a pretty wide selection of mostly popular rock songs. If you've ever wanted to hear how Bohemian Rhapsody, Karma Police, Yellow, or Angel Of Death would sound on a NES, here is your chance.
Nice and light listen, but goddamn whoever arranged these has a lot of talent for it. Sorry if you were expecting something deeper, though.

Do they have more than just the Bubble Bobble theme? I thought it was just some one-off random thing. Maybe not.... that's be cool.
No kidding. I quite like Scum, but felt it would have been met with a LOT of Bile here.
I've been a pretty big fan of them for a while. There are a ton of NES cover bands, but they have to be the best by far. Anyways, I look forward to those uploads.

I saw the minibosses live
what a blast
The Advantage have two full-lengths out. I haven't heard the newest one, but the first one is awesome.

They are also amazing live. I saw them open for Pinback a few years ago and it was incredible. One of the two founding members of Hella plays drums for the Advantage.
Regarding NESCover, it's actually really impressive, albiet simplified versions of classic songs. I really enjoyed Kashmir and, surpisingly, I have a new-found respect for the song, "Closing Time." Best version ever!

I love "Losing My Religion" and "Karma Police"

Ther perfect Strangers theme is great, too (David Pomerantz)
