  • Jimmy Flemion of The Frogs - he has dozens and dozens of unreleased, excellent songs - he is one of the lesser-knowns but one day after he's dead he'll become a fucking legend - just like Nick Drake - just you wait and see.

Oh yeah, DEFINITELY on crack!! Excuse me, but Paul McCartney writes FLUFF, nothing more! And since Band on the Run it isn't even GOOD fluff. GRRR!

Not to be a Debbie Downer but Leonard Cohen is dead y'all.

I'm surprised it's not a unanimous Dylan at no. 1. Van Morrisson is right up there. I liked the Neil Finn reference, I'd definitely put him in my top five. Did anyone mention Jeff Buckley?

I noticed in a recent music magazine [Paste] there was a list of the 100 best singer/songwriters still living. So in the same fashion what would be your choice for let's say the top 15.

    Mine: In no order

    Jeff Mangum (Nuetral Milk Hotel)
    Neil Young
    Isaac Brock (Modest Mouse)
    Leonard Cohen
    Bob Dylan
    Colin Meloy (Decemberists)
    Win Butler (Arcade Fire)
    Robert Pollard (Guided by Voices)
    Morrisey (Smiths)
    Ben Gibbard (Postal Service/DCFC)
    Elliot Smith
    Thom Yorke (Radiohead)
    Sam Beam (Iron and Wine)
    Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam)
    Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes)

how can you omit Springsteen ?

But i believe jimmy page is the one who wrote most of the lyrics, at least i think
    only through zep III

no, Plant wrote almost all the song lyrics. the only songs that Page wrote the lyrics for were Tangerine from Zep III and Dazed And Confused (from his Yardbird days). it's a common misconception that Plant didn't write any lyrics on Zeppelin I because he isn't credited as a writer on any of the songs. this was because Plant was still under contract with another label and couldn't have his name on Zep credits yet. newer pressing of the album do however list him as writer on Babe I'm Going to Leave you

Edit: oh and Roger Waters is my pick for this thread's topic

Am I blind, or did that top 100 list not include EV???

Also - I saw that Top 100 list included DBT, but the boys need to be called out individually - all three equally talented and powerful:

    Patterson Hood
    Jason Isbell
    Mike Cooley

but surely, neither Page nor Plant wrote those lyrics. Didn't that turn out to be just an old trad blues number, that they reworked ?...Like most of the first album (or two).

p.s....Damien Rice gets my vote :)
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....
