I love Janis! She is so important for music and women in music, she was the first to scream and yell and do it with passion! Without her music wouldnt be the same, she also did it in a non athestetic way, she was voted the ugly girl in college and wasnt there too look hot, she was there to sing! She was up there in a man's world of musicians and festivals and rocked just as hard as them!

AMEN to THAT!!! did you read Love, Janis? She surely had balls to do what she did during that time. :) she did help pave the way for a lot of women artists today. Her contribution to music is a lasting one.

Let's raise a toast to Janis Joplin! :)

AAARRGGHHHH!!! yes yes yes, there IS a Janis Joplin thread!! :D:D:D

it was only a few days ago when I visited the library and got Love, Janis to read as I've always been intrigued by her though I didn't know her music, except for Piece of My Heart. then the day after I started reading the book I just HAD TO find all the Janis albums our library has and get them aswell!! (they had Pearl and The Essential Janis Joplin) been listening to those since that and I am in love!

I'm soooo happy that I've found her!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

i'm glad that you read the book. I love how her sister put her insight into things. OMG, you listen to Pearl?! that is such a great album. The story behing that album, I think it was mentioned in the book, that she was singing and they had the mics on. Pure Janis moment! I have the Texas international Pop festival and OMG, it goes to show you that janis is QUEEN!! :D

    YAY! another janis convert! :D

well, I haven't actually finished the book yet. :) as it's fairly long, I haven't had enough time and I'm reading it in English so I have to take a break every now and then or I'll just be reading it and then after a while realise that I haven't understood/can't remember anything I've read, lol. :D

I shall give Pearl a proper listen today, have been listening to the Essential CDs now. :)

    :D

She was a great singer no doubt and I love big brother, but she's not the queen of rock n' roll, Stevie Nicks is.

....gonna have to disagree with that. Stevie is great, but she's no Janis.

When she was on form, she was fantastic. When she was off, she was fucking awful.

I think the amount of Jack Daniels consumed had a BIG part in that!
  • I think I would really loved to meet her back in the 60s, she seemed to be so sensitive...I love her. And of couse, her voice, the music...I think Move Over is my favourite song.

    Cheers for you Janis!!!

Very overrated in my opinion, is she didnt die early.......she wouldnt have had the fame that she does. I think her voice is crap, just sound like yelling to me.

even before her death, Janis was huge. Monterey Pop Festival anyone? the footage from that show made people realize what a great talent she was. Even Mama Cass had the 'OMG' look on her face when Janis belted out her singing talent.

Janis sang from deep inside of her soul and she surely let it all out for everyone to hear. Whether you like it or not, she was a force to be reckon with!
