    1) Buffalo Tom
    2) Pearl Jam

If you don't know who Buffalo Tom are .... just a stright forward rock band ... three piece, from Boston, came out a few years before PJ (thus, in the genre of "college" or "alternative"). Have played with each other in the past.

    1) PJ

    2) The Black Crowes - they have stayed true to their roots, yet release distinctly different albums each time. They tour non-stop. They play long, unpredictable sets every night. They are the only band I have seen more than PJ. Pure rock 'n' roll.

    PEARL JAM

Second Favorite........I have a lot of those.....um.............pink floyd, perfect circle/tool, STP, Radiohead, moe, Blind Melon, GNR, Soundgarden, Beck, Tom Petty, Nirvana, the new REM album is great, MMJ, James Taylor, Beatles, Black Crowes, Alice in Chains, Fleetwood Mac, Stones...yes, that's my second place.
(I listen to music at work roughly 9 hours a day. So going thru 10 or 12 discs in a day is no big deal. Often I get bored hearing the same ole crap...)

Pearl Jam are currently tied for the #2 position with Wintersleep and Tom Waits.

My #1: THE TRAGICALLY HIP. For many reasons:

    1.They're brilliant songwriters.

    2. They've got a killer live show that's second to none. I've probably seen them live about 24 or 25 times over the years (I think I stopped counting after 20) and they never fail to kick my ass.

    3. Gord Downie is arguably the greatest frontman in rock, not to mention one of the most gifted lyricists of our time. The dude is a true rock n' roll original.

    4. All five of them are really nice guys and they treat their fans like gold.

    5. 23 years and 11 albums into their career and they have yet to release a crappy record. Some albums are better than others of course, and they definitely have a handful of songs I don't like, but even a mediocre Hip song is still better than the majority of the shit that passes for music these days.

    6. Everytime they release a new album, they tour like crazy for months on end. So you missed them when they came through your town? No problem. They'll be back in a few weeks. They never stop.

    7. They're extremely generous with their time and money, and they support dozens of different charities in Canada and the rest of the world.

    8. Did I mention they're great songwriters?
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

    1. Pearl Jam
    2. The Tragically Hip

The Hip is pretty much the "Pearl Jam of Canada"...not soundwise but more of how they are as a band.
Though...they'll never make it as big outside of Canada like Pearl Jam have outside the States....but that's totally fine I think...because that's more for us!!! They've written about countless and unforgettable songs...that you could simply call Canadiana and could not find anywhere else. And yes they are really awesome especially to their fans, like how direwolf have pointed out many times in this forum. Hip Hip! :p

I actually got into the Hip first back in '96...then PJ in '98. If there is no PJ...then yep you'll know my answer. :)
