Noticeable "Mistakes" on Released Albums

Let me start off saying mistakes is not a bad word by any means in this thread. It's meant to give the notion that these songs are so fresh to the band, and so raw, that things were captured that make the song unique, the energy and adrenaline of something so exciting to the band will overwhelm your ability to completely concentrate and play everything perfectly AS WELL AS not having to do so many takes and keeping everything cookie-cutter and polished.
Not gonna contribute at the current moment - kinda tired, but wanted to throw this out there for you late night people and oversea'ers.
*EDIT* After being away for just a few hours - i find it more fun just to read each reply so let's leave it at that haha...good job guys!

How do we know if they're mistakes? Ya never know, man....ya never know...and let's not be too critical

Not tryin to bust your balls, man. I'm sorry if it seems that wayGrand Rapids '04, Detroit '06

Well there's the very begining of Brain of J
Stone Gossard...riffmeister extraordinaire!
I am a man, I am advanced.....I am the first man to borrow Stone's leather pants!0 -
I'll add, for my own pleasure:
On Mirrorball, the song "Downtown", someone (I think it's Stone) says, "I think I fucked up, let me just play the groove for a minute."
And that's how the song starts. Awesome....and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.0 -
Maybe not really "mistakes", but a few things I've found odd
VS - Rearviewmirror - 1:14 - 1:20...what's up with the calluses on the fingers scraping on the strings?
Pearl Jam - Severed Hand 2:50 - 3:00, what's with the beeping sound coming from the guitar?Bob Loblaw's Law Blog: "Why should YOU go to jail for a crime someone else noticed?"0 -
See i would say a mistake would be something like a dead note, or something that just doesnt go with the overall flow of a song. Like the beeping on severed hand sounds like it belongs, it is not random, its kinda like consistant, Which to me would mean it was planned.0

At the end of Rearviewmirror, the drummer throws his sticks against the wall. It's because he hated the ending of it (since he couldn't get it right) so when he did, he threw the sticks against the wall.
There's tons of stuff we can hear on a lot of the songs..Grand Rapids '04, Detroit '06

there's definitely a clunker of a dead note in Release. forget where exactly, but i figure it's a pretty obvious one.0

The intro riff to Immortality; the 4th time through, Ed half-mutes the 4th note.Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"0 -
Dave A was pissed off cause they had done shitloads of takes and couldnt get the song right, so at the end of the recording he throws his drumsticks in frustration against the wall. they ended up using that very take/recording and then apparently Dave A threw his drums off a cliff or something lol.xtremehardy388 wrote:At the end of Rearviewmirror, the drummer throws his sticks against the wall. i love that bit in rearview! such a cool sound to make on guitar. scratchin' records!!www.cluthelee.com0 -
I always thought there was a mistake in Satan's Bed at the end of the second chorus where there is an extra "Already in love..." in the background right before Ed sings "It's torture... follows reward..." Just the way he kind of leads into the torture part with a little laugh makes it seem like he was acknowledging the mistake...
It fits right in with the rawness of the song, though, so I'm not sure "mistake" is the right word. Of course, I could also be completely nuts...I smile, but who am I kidding...0 -
"Hey Foxy...". As in, the whole song.0

It's probably not a "mistake" as such... but what's with the errant whistle in the second verse of Given To Fly?Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.0

That beeping in Severed Hand is definitely supposed to be there. Yeah it's weird but it's a song about acid what do you expect.2006/05/25 - Boston
