Pearl Jam Studio Sound Effects

We break down the live sound all the time. What do you know about studio effects used etc. Obviously binaural recording was used for a specific sound... we know they use Blue Mic's sometime, I wonder what cabinet techniques they use, whether they might use ribbons at all etc.
Earlier on there was a lot more compression in the final production and other songs like Breath even seem to have a touch of chorus some of which could be a by product of the recording definately a shimmer. IN any case I thought we needed a thread to discuss studio techniques to get different sounds. Guitars that might not be used live... etc.
Obviously Ed on the ITW soundtrack has a few different instruments. I think I heard a mandolin and a banjo in there.
what do you think?

My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

Here's something to kick it off. This is an interview with Tchad Blake who produced 'Binaural'. He talks about a lot of stuff, but page 5 has some Pearl Jam bits. He mentions a Ludwig pedal (sic) that Mike used a lot on that album, and also some sans amp gear that they use in the studio:

interesting, I know that some of thier other Favorite engineers happen to have a few Emperical Labs Distressors on hand as well. Those things sound good.My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -
This is the best post on this board in a long long time. Unfortunately I don't have much to add. But this is the type of information that I get the most kicks out of. And wish there was more discussion on it.E. I sure wish I had more on this topic really. I know I've read a few other interviews with Brett before that had stuff but other than that I don't know that much... other than what's seen in Album Covers. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" This is a cool thread paco. This link is old school, and most of us in here would know about how binaural got it's name, and the wicked sound in 'soon forget', but for the benefit of new fans, it's a good read.Pacomc79 wrote:We break down the live sound all the time. I've always been floored by the sounds in the chorus of "Sleight of Hand" and wondered how they did it. Kind of has a "When the Levee Breaks" vibe to it where they had John Bonham record the beat in a hallway.Camden I '06, Camden II '06, Bonnaroo '08, Camden I '08, Camden II '08, Philly Spectrum II/III/IV '09, MSG I '10, MSG II '10, Made In America '12, Wrigley '13, Brooklyn II '13, Philly I '13, Philly II '13, ...0

We all know Grievance was recorded live in the studio, however, how come no one has ever brought up the fact of the overdubbed drum fills? Granted they're absolutely awesome, but a shame he can't play with 4 arms live!9/29/96, 8/29/98, 9/8,11/98, 7/28/99, 8/23,24,25/00, 10/13/00, 4/15/03, 4/30/03, 7/8,9,12,14/03, 10/1/04, 9/30/05, 10/1/05, 5/4,5,13,27,28/06, 6/1,3/06, 6/19,20,22,24,25,27/08, 7/1/08, 8/4,5,7,16/08, 8/21/09, 10/27,28,30,31/09, 5/15,17,18,20,21/10, 9/2/12, 10/18,19,21,22,25/130
