    okay you guys, I need some help! youthinkyou'reold gave me some suggestions - but I'd like some more.

    I've never played the bass before, but really interested in learning how. I went to several music places the other day and had a look around. One place I went to you could rent them, which I thought wasn't bad ( you know to make sure that I really like it) so, a guy showed me a Washburn(?) where you didn't need an amp. Also, he said that they offered lessons and they also had some of those teach yourself dvds. So, what do you guys thinK? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions!

    I'll give you my quick take, if you want. Or you can ignore!
    Definitely take a few lessons to start, to get a head start, and you can always question the teacher about stuff. The DVD's are good because you can put it in anytime and learn on your schedule.

    If the bass feels right after you break in your hands, It is right.

    Well, I'm off to my last American food meal for a 3 month or so tour!
    Off to Bosnia tomorrow, then to Eastern Europe tour, then Africa.

    Thru an MXR Dyna-Comp
    Into a Gallien-Krueger 400RB (1st edition)
    And a Sunn 6 x 10" (newer JBL speakers, no horn)

    It's a phatty stage rig...

    Wish I had a small Ampeg tube combo (B-15) for the bedroom.

    I know there are some more bassists out there... I wanna hear your set-up...

    Oh, and I just got two new pedals... Both Boss, one is a Limiter-Enhancer and the other is Overdrive... they are very fun to play around with...

    Oh, you have no idea... I'd like to get a better comp, like a limiter-enhancer, and a Deluxe P-Bass (P/J pickups, P-bass body, Jazz neck) to match the P-Bass.     screw the new amp get a cheap sonic maximiser like a BBE or Aphex Big Bottom and then some kind of nice smooth DBX compressor or a Bluesonus or Joe Meek. That would clean up the pumping drawback to the dynacomp. Compressors get loud when you aren't playing so without a limiter I can see how that would irk you. Such a cool rig. I used to love Trace Elliot too. You could always get a MOBass head. Ha. That cabinet is great. What about getting an old sunn head?

    I don't need any more bottom... I like a good, punchy, low-mid tone. But a Sonic Maximizer and a dbx 160 compressor (the vintage solid-state, not the new tube) would round out the tone nicely. And I've got room in the rack, too. But like I said... have other things to spend money on right now.

    This stupid piece of crap Les Paul alone is gonna eat $200 or more.

    I need to shield this thing, too... God damn it! I should've sold it or busted it on stage... set it on fire...

    how about a band with more than one bass player? dueling bass lines. a rhythm and lead bass player. Think Entwisile or Claypool. That'd be cool.
