All you Jeff-ites and bass players... what do you play?

I play a Custom Modulus 5-String, a American Deluxe Fender P-Bass, and a Sonata Acoustic/Electric Bass... right now I'm playing through an Ampeg stack, but I'm looking to upgrade to a Marshall 10 foot stack someday...

What are you guys playing?

Guys like Victor Wooten and Jaco Pastorius solo on the bass like SRV and Hendrix....

In my opinion, a beastly bassist is better than a beastly guitarist, but that's just me....

    I have three, all left-handed. rickenbacker 4, stingray 4, and yamaha a/e-5

I think my parents felt sorry for me bcause I was trying to copy the boys or they actually thought I was going to make a living out this. Little did they know.

Ok by the way puremagic, reading all that gear stuff, you just got sexier if that's possible.

I'll sing lead no problem, we can trade off solos.

Drummers hmmm. What's you guys flavor hard hitting, technical?

How do you tell when the stage is level?

The drummer drools out of both sides of his mouth.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

    Peavey Cirrus 4 String
    Peavey Firebass 700 II
    Peavey 810TX Cab

I had an Ampeg SVT-4PRO with the 810EN and SVT-215 cabs. I had two 4PRO's go to crap on me and had to replace two $100 speakers in the 810 cab. I went back to Peavey because it is rock-solid reliable and the newer stuff sounds great.

I prefer left-handed bass guitars, right-handed bass guitars feel... backward.

okay you guys, I need some help! youthinkyou'reold gave me some suggestions - but I'd like some more.

I've never played the bass before, but really interested in learning how. I went to several music places the other day and had a look around. One place I went to you could rent them, which I thought wasn't bad ( you know to make sure that I really like it) so, a guy showed me a Washburn(?) where you didn't need an amp. Also, he said that they offered lessons and they also had some of those teach yourself dvds. So, what do you guys thinK? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions!
" I think the thing that has always driven me to play music is the feeling you get when you just close your eyes and play. When you shut off the logic in your brain, and play from your heart. I think that's what made me become a musician - that feeling you get. Especially, if you are with a group of people who are in the same zone, and heading towards that same place in the song. I think you share an intimacy in those situations that you can only compare to sharing intimacy with a lover. I think it's the same place. It's a feeling that I crave for sure. " Jeff Ament

    Hi Yield girl,,,,,,You can't hide!! : ) ( well, till tomorrow )
I'll give you my quick take, if you want. Or you can ignore!
Definitely take a few lessons to start, to get a head start, and you can always question the teacher about stuff. The DVD's are good because you can put it in anytime and learn on your schedule.

If the bass feels right after you break in your hands, It is right.

Well, I'm off to my last American food meal for a 3 month or so tour!
Off to Bosnia tomorrow, then to Eastern Europe tour, then Africa.
    Good luck playing bass.

Here's some ammo to give us guitar players a hard time:

How many Guitar players does it take to screw in a light bulb? 6 one to screw it in, and 5 to stand around and say " I could've done that!"

How do you get a guitarist to turn down his amp?
Put sheet music in front of him.

    Fender Standard P-Bass
    Thru an MXR Dyna-Comp
    Into a Gallien-Krueger 400RB (1st edition)
And a Sunn 6 x 10" (newer JBL speakers, no horn)

    It's a phatty stage rig...

Wish I had a small Ampeg tube combo (B-15) for the bedroom.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

Hells yeah, man... what do you play? Guitar? I play a little of everything... so I'm not sure where I fit.

Oh, you have no idea... I'd like to get a better comp, like a limiter-enhancer, and a Deluxe P-Bass (P/J pickups, P-bass body, Jazz neck) to match the P-Bass. A Rickenbacker 4001 would be sweet, too. But the cabinet is the best thing I've bought in a year. Got it for a hell of a price, too... the pawn folks never saw the new speakers, and the tolex is beat up, so it looks nasty but sounds amazing. The amp is nothing special; transparent, but clean, and loud enough. I'd like to get an Ashdown or a SWR, but that can wait a while. I've decided to be a guitar player again for the next few months.
