Pulisic has started 7 World Cup games, and left 3 of them hurt. Charmin soft
He could not have been more disappointing. Years and years of being the promised savior. And basically nothing.

1994 they lost 1-0 to Brazil in Round of 16 and 2002 they just barely lost the quarterfinal to Germany. They have clearly regressed despite importing players. We have little kids playing soccer in like 200,000 leagues and we can't get an elite team together.

The European league’s are miles ahead of the American League or even the South or Central American League’s! That’s why those countries can produce such great teams.

pulisic is possibly the biggest disappointment in usmnt history
Golden Boy Gio Reyna. Fixed it for you.
    Come on…
What?  Gio was supposed to be on par with Pulisic. He barely warranted a place on the ‘22 team, plus all the drama he (and his parents) caused didn’t do that side any favors.  He was fortunate to be selected this time and did basically nothing apart for a well taken goal in garbage time. He had a good year and a half at Dortmund but since then has been a major disappointment at all the clubs he’s played for.  Couldn’t even get minutes (let alone start) on loan for a crap Forest side a couple years ago.

At this WC, Pulisic got a 1.0 rating from kicker magazine for the Paraguay game. Was it his fault he got hurt?  He has consistently been the best attacker for the US and has had a pretty good club career.  All the hype surrounding him doesn’t help. He was disappointing v Belgium but so was the whole side.
I had high hopes for gio and all but he hasn’t been relevant since dortmund. Sure he’s a disappointment but that’s old news and not close to the same level. Pulisic is the guy and just doesn’t show up. He had 45 good minutes in this World Cup, after a disappointing club season and skipping the last national tournament to be ready for this. He can be a difference maker, but you also have to be available and he’s never available.

He’s the most skilled player the US has ever had and has absolutely nothing to show for it.

Well, that says a lot when Belgium is brining players off the bench that are better then Pulisic?

I probably should've Posted this in this Thread:

Elite is France level Spain level England level America is far from that!
And I doubt I'll ever see them at that level in my Lifetime.

I remember when Pele and Franz Beckenbauer came over to play on the NY Cosmos in the mid 70's/early 80's and that was supposed to help grow the game in the USA. 50 years and still no better than the Quarterfinals, one time, in the WC. Most of USA best athletes don't play soccer.

I mean yeah, we didn’t have a top 100 ranked player in the tournament coming in. At the time I thought pulisic deserved to be there but I was clearly wrong.

france’s 2nd 11 can be our starting 11. Same time, we should have done better here.

I think it boils down to country club sport vs. a street sport that kids play (without supervision) as soon as they can walk.

    Meh.
Give my kid the future lawyer or accountant/ well rounded experience.  The number of kids who are going to be world class athletes is miniscule.
    I dont buy this reasoning.
(My son plays travel but not this sport.)
The better argument is the one that our best athletes dont play this sport.
Everyone can have their opinions, I just dont agree with this author's.

Great article.  I mentioned in another thread that once Soccer can make money off parents then we would get better athletes.

This article proves me wrong and I get it.  100% true about kids switching clubs.  My friends and their kids are/have been doing this for some time now.

It made me ask them “how will your kid get noticed for college if you don’t play for the school team?” Apparently the pay for play schools push that THEY are the end all be all and that the HS teams aren’t the way to go.

Total money making bullshit.  It also doesn’t stop us making pro baseball players, or does it?

I think if kids don’t have a drive to be great then they won’t.

Yeah, AAU, Travel baseball and hockey produce great players.  It is more about our levels of competition and best athletes not going this route, imo.  (Soccer)
Not saying there is not a crazy money making machine in place around travel sports, only that the idea that this produces weak athletes doesnt play, to me.
Our society produces weak people, in general.
That, I will get down with more than that article.
