Release - I was in the Atlantic in Oct. of 2000. Unseasonably warm, for one week, lots of bad karma in my life at the time, and I felt like I needed to reconnect and center myself. So there I was drifting in the waves, totally awe struck by the fact I was in the ocean in Oct., when this feeling came over me. I can't explain it, I can't describe it, except peace comes to mind. I left the ocean that day a different person. And here we are almost 5 years later and that day still stands out as a defining moment in my life, and I am able to remember vividly that feeling, that environment. - Glorious! - I hope I never forget it. Release takes me to that moment every time.

Man of the Hour - My father died before I was born. This song is so emotional for me, but in a good way.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me
I know I was born and I know that I'll die, the in between is mine. I Am Mine
Til the Lightning Bolt sets you free

Well, I dont know what the inspirations were for the people who wrote the songs but I think most artists want you to gather your own meaning anyway. For me, "Present Tense" pretty much always aplies to me, you gotta have that mindset, whats in the past is past. Also, "Deep" was good for me a while back cuz i was just feeling miserable and overwhelmed with all sorts of shit at school, personal and academically. I was just "in too deep".
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

  • I guess for me, It has been a fifferent song , as I grow up, and as new Pearl Jam has come out. So, when I was 13, It was oceans, and Jeremy, but then when Vs. came out, it was Rearvie Mirror, and Indifference, then tremor christ, and corduroy, and than in 1996, It was Off he goes, and In my tree, Then it was the whole Yield Vibe, and Binaural, I was all about Light years, and of the girl, and insignificance, Riot Act, LBC, GD, All or None, you name, it's like Pearl Jam is the soundtrac to life.
we can dream, and we can make dreams come true for others

It doesnt hurt.... when I bleed
    but memories...they eat me

bring it on cause I'm no victim.

For me ( a relatively new fan of PJ ) i love the song "Daughter". I was seeing a fantastic girl at the time who introduced me to the band. I'll never erase the memory of her banging the car steering wheel (in time )and shouting at the top of her lungs!! The opening chords and lyrics do it for me, from that moment on i was HOOKED!!

Dirty Frank - Hahahahah actually, I'm using it as inspiration to write a poem "Clean Glenda" which is Dirty Frank's little sister. Should be interesting if I put it from where it is locked in my brain to paper and pen.

PearlJams songs, lyricly, are the only band that in my 35 years of being a music lover, that have consistantly spoken to me in a deep way.. that made me feel like on some level, someonje else "gets" what i am feeling and been thru......So many songs.....just click with something inside me...

    Ditto.

Thank you for saying exactly what I feel.

Like a lot of you have said, there are a lot of songs that have applied to my life. Black and Grievance are a couple of the ones lately. Black because it has helped me to deal with the loss of my father over the past few months. Grievance because every time politics are talked about, I get so pissed off at the people running and governing this country.
