So sorry to hear this, Ivan. I hope you have a full and fast recovery. I remember when you were hospitalized the first time with this. My thoughts are with you.CROJAM95 said:
Not good… Dog is praying for a reason 😫…. My surgically repaired foot had a major rupture on Wednesday while I was working in NYC and I’ve been in the hospital since after a few more surgeries…I’m still in shock . Hopefully I’ll be out in a few days, but need 8 weeks of home iv treatment ….Life was pretty good… my spirits are strong but fuck me….. it’s very tricky with infection in the bones… I’ve been tested like never before/ mris etc and the doctors are even shocked due to my other health indicators being strong all around.SPEEDY MCCREADY said:

Don't really post much of my homie here, but I have posted him here a couple times. In 2014, I met a woman from BCAAofNJ at a park in South Jersey. With her was this 1yo pup saved from a kill shelter in South Carolina. Like any 1yo pup, he was high energy, excited, pulling his hardest trying to get to me. As soon as he reached me, he sat on my foot and looked back and up at me. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was game over. I immediately called my girlfriend and said, "this is the dog".
Lots of training and patience, he became an incredible dog. Except when you turn the sprinklers on (can't win 'em all). Never destroyed anything, never bit anyone, barely had any accidents. Just a straight class-A clinger to whoever's next to him and would pet him. Then we added little hoomans into the mix, and both my dogs just ate-up all the love that my kids gave them, and vice versa.
Within the past year, he's become noticeably slower, and in the past few days, he just crumbled. Yesterday we had to put the OG down. Our kid before the kids. Tons of incredible memories and I am grateful that he became a part of our Ohana for 12 years. Living in 5 states during that time, it's been a constant adventure. I knew it wasn't going to be easy, but nothing could've prepped me for my little girl bawling and screaming "I love you, Petey!" as I carried him to the truck to be taken to the vet. I miss this dude. Goodbye for now, Pete the pit.

So sorry for your loss. One of life's hardest experiences for sure.
RIP Petey. You rescued him and gave him an incredible life. My thoughts are with you and your family. This weekend we rock Portland0 -
I am so sorry. Petey sounds like an incredible dog. Being through this with several cats over the years, I feel your pain. It sounds like you gave him a great life, and he gave you one right back.0

Condolences on Petey. It’s difficult cause they are always around you… the void is very hard on us all, hope you all find peace0

My condolences for Petey.
I've increasingly been trying to prep myself for my own pup. She was born in 2014 (adopted in June 2015) and she is our doghter. Our only kid since our cat passed in 2020. I feel like doofus but I have asked the vet at least twice if she will do a house call when that time comes. She said she would, so that's comforting."A smart monkey doesn't monkey around with another monkey's monkey" - Darwin's Theory0 -
Oh, man. RIP Petey. What everyone said is so true.I've also found this to be true. Posting this when one of us loses a best friend is kind of "my thing"...
If you’ve ever loved an animal, there are three days in your life you will always remember. The first is a day, blessed with happiness, when you bring home your new friend. You may have spent weeks deciding on a breed. You may have asked opinions of many friends or done research finding a breeder. Or, in a fleeting moment, you may have chosen that silly looking mutt at the shelter, simply because something in its eyes reached your heart. But when you bring that chosen pet home, and watch it explore…when you feel it brush against you for the first time, it instills a feeling of pure love you will carry with you through many years to come.
The second day will occur years later. It will be a day like any other. Routine and unexceptional. But, for a surprising instant, you will look at your longtime friend and see age where you once saw youth. You will see slow deliberate steps where you once saw energy. You will see sleep where you once saw activity. You will begin to adjust your friend’s diet and you may add a pill to her food. And, you may feel a growing uneasy feeling until the third day arrives.
On this day, if your friend or your higher being has not decided for you, then you will be faced with making a decision of your own on behalf of your lifelong friend. Whichever way your friend leaves you, you will feel as alone as a single star in the dark night.
If you are wise, you will let the tears flow freely as they must. If you are typical, you will find that not many family and friends will be able to understand your grief. But, if you are true to the love of the pet you cherished through many joy-filled years, you may find that a soul, smaller in size than your own, seems to walk with you at times, during the lonely days to come. At those moments when you least expect anything out of the ordinary, you may feel something brush against your leg. And, looking down at the place where your dear friend used to lie… you will remember those three significant days. The memory will be painful. As time passes, the ache will come and go. You will reject it and embrace it and it may confuse you. If you reject it, it will depress you. If you embrace it, it will deepen you. Either way, it will still be an ache.
But, there will be a fourth day when, along with the memory of your pet, and piercing through the heaviness in your heart, there will come a realization that belongs only to you. It will be as unique and strong as our relationship with the pet we have loved and lost. This realization takes the form of a Living Love, like the heavenly scent of a rose. This Love will remain and grow, and will be there for us to remember. It is a love we have earned. It’s the legacy our pets leave us when they go… and it’s a gift we keep with us as long as we live. And until we leave, perhaps to join our beloved pets, it is a Love we will always possess.
