PARIS/LONDON, March 11 (Reuters) - The International Energy Agency (IEA) on Wednesday ‌recommended the release of 400 million barrels of oil, the largest such move in its history, to try to restrain soaring crude prices amid the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran.

The IEA said the release had been unanimously agreed by 32 member countries, with timing to be set out in due course. The Paris-based IEA made its comments as French President Emmanuel Macron chaired a meeting of ⁠G7 leaders that will discuss the issue.

Germany's Economy Minister Katherina Reiche had earlier confirmed reports of the 400-million-barrel figure and said her country would participate in the release. The U.S. and Japan would be the largest contributors to the IEA release, she added.

"Pressure came mainly from the U.S. government which wants this release," an EU diplomat said, speaking before the IEA statement.

U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum welcomed reports of the planned release.

"This is the perfect time to think about releasing some of those to take some pressure off of the global price," he said in an interview with Fox News.

Burgum said, however, he ‌did ⁠not believe the world was facing an energy shortage.

"We've got a transit problem, which is temporary," he said. "You have a temporary transit problem that we're resolving militarily and diplomatically, which we can resolve and will resolve."

Analysts have said the pace of daily IEA stock releases would matter as much as if not more than the overall size.

If ⁠100 million barrels were released over the next month, the daily pace will amount to around 3.3 million barrels per day - a fraction of the current disruption of around 20 million barrels per day, with the Strait of Hormuz ⁠between Iran and Oman effectively blocked.

Oil prices rebounded on Wednesday as markets doubted whether the IEA's plan could offset potential supply shocks from the conflict.

Three days after President Trump announced his “Complete and Total Endorsement” of the Louisiana congressional candidate Blake Miguez, the Republican contender posted a video from outside the West Wing boasting of his close relationship with Trump and his team. “I just got done having some great meetings with the White House,” he told his supporters on February 7.

What he did not say—either publicly or to Trump’s advisers at the time—was that there was a political bombshell about to drop on his campaign for Louisiana’s deep-red Fifth Congressional District. Months earlier, when Miguez was running for the U.S. Senate, a 2007 police report had surfaced that showed that Miguez’s former girlfriend had accused him of rape and other abusive behavior, including locking her in bedrooms, taking away her keys, and holding her down. The Miguez campaign denies the claims.
In the report, which I obtained, the woman described to police how Miguez had sex with her even though she told him no, and then followed her when she fled the home. She told police that she’d hidden behind a car near a convenience store until a friend could join her, then called 911. An officer took her to a hospital for a rape-kit examination, the report stated. Miguez, who was then 25 years old, was detained and questioned. After the woman, then 22, told a detective that she did not want to press charges, none were filed. “I called 911 cause I honestly was/am scared!” she wrote in a voluntary statement to the police.
The police report has put the president in a difficult position, because Trump has been repeatedly accused of sexual assault and was found liable for sexual abuse in a New York civil trial. The president has denied any wrongdoing. Two people familiar with the White House endorsement process told me that Trump’s top advisers were not informed of the police report or the rape accusation before the president endorsed. That has raised concerns that Miguez either wasn’t fully vetted or wasn’t forthcoming about discoverable documents from his past. The report has been circulating in Louisiana for months, according to people familiar with the effort to uncover it, and last fall, a private investigator requested public records related to the woman that have since been used to try to undermine her credibility.
“It has been widely discussed amongst the political crowd that there was a massive bomb,” one Republican who works in the state told me about the rumors. “Nobody knew what it was.”
The Club for Growth, a conservative group that is involved in Republican primaries in safe House seats, endorsed Miguez a day earlier than the president and continues to support him. A spokesperson for the group, Joe Kildea, declined to say whether officials knew about the rape allegation ahead of its endorsement and told me that the group was aware of what he called “false accusations made 20 years ago” and does not find them credible.

Jack Detsch and Paul McLeary of Politico reported today that last year Hegseth slashed the oversight offices designed to limit civilian casualties in war and to investigate responsibility for them. Over the warnings of top military officials, he cut the number of employees working in that field from 200 to fewer than 40. Hegseth has vowed not to be hampered by “stupid rules of engagement,” but as Wes Bryant, the Pentagon’s former chief of civilian harm assessments, told the journalists, ““As it turns out, when you kill less civilians, you tend to be putting your resources toward killing the enemy.”

“[W]ar, in this context and in pursuit of peace, is necessary,” Hegseth said, “which is why each day, on bended knee, we continue to appeal to heaven. In today’s phone call to the Brian Kilmeade Show, Trump suggested the war will not continue for long and said he will know it’s over “[w]hen I feel it, OK, feel it in my bones.”

The likelihood is growing that the economy will be in recession when voters cast their ballots in the midterm elections. Goldman Sachs on Thursday raised its 12-month estimation of a recession’s probability from 20 percent to 25 percent, and on Friday morning Polymarket, the crypto-based prediction market, put the likelihood at 34 percent within the next nine and a half months. The most immediate economic problem is the Iran war, which on Friday morning had oil trading at about $100 per barrel, even after the Treasury Department rather pathetically lifted sanctions on Russian oil for tankers already at sea. In effect, war with Iran is compelling Trump to partially surrender to Russia in the Ukraine war—even as Russia helps Iran target U.S. forces in the Middle East—and it isn’t even working. Oil prices are still going through the roof. The Democrats’ attack ad writes itself.

Considering that the WH COS was typically the gatekeeper to was able to see the POTUS, working remotely sidelines that responsibility. Me figures Herr Miller will step into the breach and CCOOTWH will only hear Nazi ideology going forward. The US is fucked.

As for Ms. Wiles, wish her the best in defeating cancer. Fuck cancer and I’m sure no one has ever wished it upon themselves to get out of any particular situation.
