These two fine establishments with whom I'm well familiar, and many, many others, are supporting the Minneapolis general strike in their own way.
I'm closing my book business through biblio.com tomorrow.  I'm small potatoes, so it's not much, but it all adds up.
Please support this effort any way you can!
Thank you!

I don’t get this. So go to Target on Saturday instead of Friday.  Hopefully it does good though.

Voting current people out is what affects change.

Many of us are boycotting businesses that have been supportive of ICE like Target, Amazon, etc. ongoing every day of the week This is a boycott of a different nature- a general strike. Look it up, it's easy to find info about it.

Excellent points all around. Thanks for great feedback here.

Agreed! I think of this strike as a kind of a warm up.  There wasn't much time to plan or promote it and it's main focus is on Minneapolis.  Unless some big changes happen in scaling back the attacks on protesters and innocent people, I will not at all be surprised is a larger, more widespread general strike occurs in the not too distant future.  My preference would be for the former- a strong scaling back on ICE and the brutality.  I'm hoping the current administration is getting the message that these attacks are very unpopular (not to mention WRONG!)

Target supports ICE?  That doesn't line up with their past history.

Yeah, I honestly don't see this as having much of an impact. We'll see.

They have allowed ICE raids in their stores. But  in any case, this strike is not about Target.

Didn't we have this one week ago?

My guess is that each time this happens, more people will drop off.

I didn't spend money last Friday and won't today. Does it make a difference? I dunno. Can't hurt; could help. I think the point, even if it's a net-zero is that the people being harassed and threatened (which could literally be any one of us, even MAGAs) are the people that make you rich. Check out today's receipts as a potential preview to a future where your king has us all locked up or hiding.

    Good points, OnWis

And folks, let's remember that no one strike, no single protest no matter how large the attendance, no single person coming around to seeing that fascism is not in their best interest- no single event is going to make the changes we need in order to restore and fortify democracy.  But every little bit helps.  Taking a day to not buy anything is such a small sacrifice.  In fact, it kind of sound pathetic to even refer to that as a "sacrifice".
I'm hoping this day brings us a step, no matter how small, closer to restoring democracy, justice, and sanity to this country.

Big kudos to the amazing Red Devil Record store in San Rafael, California!

    Greetings Music Lovers,

The store is open today Friday January 30th from 11 to 6. 100% of the profit will be donated to the Immigration Law Center of Minnesota. Sorry I did not tell you sooner, but I thought of it at 3:00 this morning.

i don't understand why the whole pj website was shut down yesterday. i can understand the shop shutting down, but the entire website?

the forum should have been up. seems stupid to me to stifle discussion at this critical time in our history, but what do i know?

Odd that you experienced that.  I and others were on the forum here a number of times.

I think the point he was making is what is the impact if everyone skips shopping on Friday, just to double their shopping on Thursday or Saturday. I think it’s a valid question. The sad thing is we as a country are too much of a consumer society to give up much for more than a day.

We are that, without a doubt.
I would add, as understandable as it is to have as much concern as we do, and focus as much as we so on social and political concerns, that also means we are not as focused on the affect our voracious appetites are having on the planet.
But I refuse to lose hope, and if enough people really care, and a general strike of greater magnitude happens, maybe we can help end fascism AND give the planet a bit of slack.
