  • Of course not, but when the media blitz from the government is specifically “we’ll be our own best customer” and “buy Canadian”, it’s worth asking. I’m ok with it as long as it’s:

    a) transparent
    b) has a specific cap on how much is technically not from here/being reinvested here.

I hate when our government makes the Trudeau blunders of keeping details like this hidden, giving fodder/distraction for the opposition. There’s no longer nuance, it’s “we found this detail out” -> “CORRUPTION!!”. So transparency is incredibly important now.

To the b) above, how do you account for the cap? There may be $1B this year, $800M next, etc. until you can’t buy from elsewhere, without major investment and time.

Canada and all current trading partners of the US should be doing this as clearly, the US voters and current and potentially subsequent administrations can’t be trusted.

  • 😂 this loser goes from criticizing no deal to criticizing a deal in 3 short months. Cons, get a competent adult as your leader.

It's so odd.  I think I lean centre-right, so generally I should be voting conservative in most elections, but it just puts me off, when the only skillset I've seen someone have is to slag off the current leader/administration.

If your going to do that, state what you would do different, and how you would do it.

I'm not sure Pierre has any other skillsets other then being a politician that criticizes everything.

If he stays on as leader, I'll either keep protest voting, or vote Carney (if the election came up soon) to give it some time to see if his policies end up working out.
  • Same reason, to a lesser degree, why I couldn’t vote for Jugmeet. It seemed he thought all he needed was to criticize JT and nothing else.

I hope the NDP gets a Jack Layton type again, make that party competitive again. Same with the cons. I usually vote left, but no competition is terrible for everyone. And right now PP poses nearly no threat.

Carney is pretty damn centre, leaning towards right (in the fiscal sense), so I don't see why you wouldn't be happy to vote for him. To me, Carney seems like the leader the Conservatives ought to have, if they hadn't been infiltrated by American-style populism.

Fucking A right. We should all be so proud. I shudder to think how CCOOTWH will follow up tomorrow. More infantile threats and tantrums. It’s going to be so fucking embarrassing. UGH!

We likely won’t understand 90% of CCOOTWH’s incoherent ramblings but it might be avoided as there’s already an excuse of AF1 having had to turn around because of “an electrical issue.” No truth to the rumour that AF1 was headed towards Epstein Island because of a “radar glitch”.

The speech was needed. There still seems to be a lot of denial happening, and Carney basically told everyone to pull their heads out of their asses and face reality.

Carney made the analogy that the hypothetical "rules based order" sign needs to be removed from the world's nation's window and new alliances to be formulated as the rightful suggestion was that the US can no longer be considered a reliable ally with common interests. Time to look and act elsewhere.

With regards to the Carney speech....  did I like it? Of course from a personal perspective.

And this may be an unpopular opinion.. but I strategically don't like it in terms of driving Canada forward... UNLESS Carney has magic up his sleeves somewhere.

Without support from other counties, this speech was a political hail mary.  Newsome said it best as well with regards to other leaders... basically saying that Carney's speech was correct and courageous.. now where is everyone else?

And that's what I'm here to say. Where is everyone else?

I fucking hate Trump... and a lot of what US has done historically is just dooshy at best.  But they are the biggest and best on a world stage with regards to important metrics... economy, tech, and military.

Being nice, defiant, and courageous are all great things to be... but it could also lead to a losing strategy.

A lot of folks especially in Canada are singing Carney's praises for this speech. But this is very much a 'time will tell' scenario... and as much as I hate Trump... I quite literally fear his retribution... with darn good reason.

I've said it before... unless you're much larger than the bully, you require friends. Those people can stand up and give him an ovation for that speech. But policy actions will speak much larger than just standing and clapping.

But policy actions will speak much larger than just standing and clapping.
the beauty of it is, he didn't say anything too specifically damning towards the US and trump. All he said was things are changing, and Canada is looking for new partnerships instead of wading the troubled waters down south, putting all our eggs in one basket full of holes.

I think Carney knows the rest of the world is looking elsewhere, and just needed it to be said out in the open.

Yes, of course, time will tell, but I loved it. Sure, the ones mocking "elbows up" as performative sloganism will surely pivot to this being "irresponsible", but that's what conservative lemmings do.

Those policy changes are already happening.
Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer
