It is with immense joy that I share the great news that Montana Grind (@montanagrind) has been selected for the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival 2026! @bigskydocfest

Besides being the largest and most important premiere festival for documentary films in the American West, it also qualifies for the Oscars, which makes this participation even more special.

The festival will take place from February 13th to 22nd in Missoula, Montana.

You can check out all the selected feature and short films at www.bigskyfilmfest.org and also purchase tickets for in-person or online screenings.

Montana Grind is a documentary about skateparks that build community in Montana, giving purpose and healing young people from Native American reservations to Small Towns.

The soundtrack was composed by Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam), @montanapoolservice , who also contributed greatly to making this film possible in many ways.

A special thank you to the Montana Skatepark Association @mtskateparkassociation and the entire Montana community that made this incredible scene possible.

And to all the great friends I’ve made along this journey, since 2014: you know who you are!

Over a period of 11 years, Montana Grind portraits how skating builds community and brings healing for kids struggling in Native communities, and grows purpose and understanding in shrinking rural America. Montanian skaters like Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament, bred from the explosive skate scene of the 1970's, and legendary skateboarders inspire a new generation of the Montana Grind through the construction of more than 35 epic skateparks across the state.     Awesome! I’m so happy this is happening. The film fest has online offerings as well! Hopefully they win and get some Oscar buzz going!

    I wonder what tracks they are going to use.. choose your color for the trailer was a great choice. I can see them using dead ends or despite all odds. Maybe some DC?

    About Montana Grind

    Montana Grind was filmed, edited, and directed by Danilo dos Reis (aka Dan Reis), a documentarist who saw the opportunity to tell this story as it was becoming history. It is a pretty authentic and original scene.

    ​

    The main goal of the project is to demonstrate how a skatepark can be a strong protective factor for all segments of a community, particularly those that lack the necessary funds to build one. It aims to inspire small communities to unite, build a skatepark, and enjoy the resulting benefits for all generations.

    ​

    Having the help from Pearl Jam's Montanan Jeff Ament made everything even more special. From making the music to suggesting interviews and connecting people, his role in Montana Grind is bigger than can be credited.

    Montana Grind was honored to Premiere in DaVinci Internacional Film Festival ´25 and had been invited to screen at East Village New York Film Festival, Manhattanhenge Film Festival

    and got an Honorable Mention at Athens International Film Festival in 2025.

    Two films near and dear to my heart are premiering at the @bigskydocfest in February. @danreis made the beautiful @montanagrind film over the last 10 years AND @keelantw created the inspirational short @pavingthewaymovie A bunch of my friends and peers are all over these films and I couldn’t be more proud of the skateboard community in our state. A true celebration! MONTANA GRIND plays Feb 18 at noon at the Roxy Theater and PAVING THE WAY will be at the Wilma Feb 15 at 530. Buy tix at @bigskydocfest @montanapoolservice

    FYI streaming schedule is out and most of their selections are geo blocked, including Montana Grind. Probably can’t even buy a ticket to gain access if you don’t have a USA CC
