I didn't pick this up myself - it was a gift. It certainly would never have crossed my mind to buy a Billy Talent album. But okay, it's not bad at all.

Being a big fan of early U2 and having seen them in the early days (War tour), it took me a long, long time to warm up to Achtung Baby. Once I finally did, of course, I realized what an amazing record it is, especially those first five amazing songs. So after that, I finally (last summer) got around to getting Zooropa, but I still haven't warmed up to it. I'm still hopeful that will happen. (I'm also hoping the new one rumored to come out this is is great!)"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

Did anyone in here pick up the Billie Eilish splatter-reissue? I think it might have been labeled a "one year anniversary edition2?"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0

Zooropa and Pop are the only two U2 albums I just can't get into and the only two of their albums that I don't have on vinyl. I just don't want to spend the money on records I won't listen to that often.brianlux said:nicknyr15 said:

Achtung is phenomenal. Definitely was a change in direction. I never could get into Zoo or much of anything after that. But their first decade + was fantastic.brianlux said:Attaway77 said:

How about this one? Anyone like it? It's really different and kind of a mixed bag to me, but I think some of these newer versions of previous U2 songs are excellent. And it's pretty easy to find on vinyl at a bargain:U2 – Songs Of Surrender
Label:
Island Records – 5503448 Format:
2 x Vinyl, LP, Limited Edition, Orange Translucent, 180g

You know Brian, I never got around to that one but I know it took some flack that it was boring and unnecessary. I would be interested if others have enjoyed it. What made those old, angry songs so great was that they were young and angry. Will that emotion re-recorded still achieve that result?0

What made those old, angry songs so great was that they were young and angry. Will that emotion re-recorded still achieve that result?I'm guessing for a lot of (maybe most) U2 fans, the re-imaginings of these songs will be a let down (Allmusic gives it three stars and the 399 user ratings average 2 stars, and most of the user reviews are scathing), and I imagine they will be let down for the very reason that some listeners will approach the album expecting fire. But the fire is not there and wasn't meant to be. Most of the ideas for this album came from The Edge, and I get the sense that what Dave had in mind was to pull out the more subtle, soulful aspects buried beneath the energy and passion of the songs in their youth.I was glad that I read up on this album before I bought it because that helped me clear any preconceptions and prompted me to listen much more openly than I might have otherwise. Not all of the songs here work for me (and not all of the original versions of some do either), but I think several of them are excellent, and they work best when I want to hear something introspective and warm, not hot. So it's not a five star album for me, but if I were to rate it, I would have no problem giving it 4 stars.I'd suggest maybe go into it with an open ear or even sample it on line before diving in."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0
