What was the last movie you watched?

pretty special - no story power, pieces put together non-chronological and the main character can be / was overall rather unbearable. But the acting saved the whole movie, no surprise if Eva Victor’s performance is worth a best actress in a leading role Oscar nominee.

Nice list of showings!
Alien is coming this month in 35 mm. I’ve seen it so much but I may be tempted.0 -

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
I loved it like ten years ago (when the film institute didn't starve the Gothenburg program like now) when they showed Alien on 35mm on a friday, and then Aliens and Alien 3 the next day, also on 35mm. Good timesCarryTheZero said:Nice list of showings!

Is it the original cut?"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
That’s awesome!
It’s a little unclear. It does not say director’s cut. If I end up going, I’ll ask first, I saw the director’s cut back in 2002 or whenever it was released the first time. Might not head out for the newer version.0 -
I think it was the "DC" for me, and the one also having been screened later here. Maybe it's just because the Swedish Film Archive's copy of it is fresher than the original. Or it could be a mandate by Ridley Scott, like with Friedkin and The Exorcist. But I don't think Scott considers the new cut as a Director's Cut and I don't think he has "disowned" the original.
Personally, I don't even know the differences between the cuts."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
The biggest difference I think changes the “rules” for how aliens are born. If I remember correctly, there is a hive scene, similar to Aliens, where Dallas and one other are encrusted onto a wall in the ship. There is some insinuation that Dallas is transforming into a xenomorph as opposed to being impregnated by a face hugger.
That would complicate the later movies a bit if that were the case. There is maybe one or two other scenes that are very slightly lengthened. It’s this scene that is considerably different though. Maybe I’ll drag out my Blu-ray’s and watch the scene again.
Yeah, I don’t think Scott has any issues with the theatrical cut. There are definitely no bad feelings from him like about Blade Runner.Post edited by CarryTheZero on0 -
Right-right. That scene with Dallas.
Do you know what other peak Sci-fi that has a character named Dallas?

I never paid much attention to this one, or the Coen brothers for that matter. On this watch I have to say it is a craftmanship-wise masterpiece. Such craft in writing, characters, acting etc. That whole evil seeping into a snowglobe feel. Great film. FIVE OUT OF FIVE. And I know Big Lebowski that followed also is. Maybe it's time to give Intolerable Cruelty another chance.
