I never saw this before.  Holy Shit.
Belzer paid for his house in France with the settlement money.
    Really?  So it wasn't staged?

In all reality, how much blow was Hogan on to think that he wouldn't hurt him? He's 6" taller and his thigh weighs as much as him...

Back in those days, wrestlers were often thrown into these media scenarios where the interviewer would mock them; sometimes obviously, sometimes a bit more subversive. But always asking them if it was fake. They had to protect the business while also trying to convince people their injuries were real.

Many of them got in shit for losing their cool; some even physically assaulted the interviewer. Big Van Vader did this, and was lucky to get out alive; it was in Kuwait. So did Dr D David Shultz.

Vader I knew about.  He had some issues though.  That was ALSO in the late 90's. The SHultz one has to be one of my favorites ever. I loved that lol! He worked that ol reporter over with a few open hands.

I heard of those and knew about Lawler and Kaufman but never saw the Hogan one.

One of my favorite commercials of all time was w Macho man and the "wrestling extreme" Slim jim one.

    Say it, say it!

yeah, people talk about wrestling just like they'd talk about game of thrones. storylines, etc. But it's not "fake". It's scripted and well rehearsed. These guys get real injuries that have real consequences.
    scripted = fake.

of course you can get injured flying off ropes and such. The steroids might be dangerous, too.

I'd like you to tell a stuntman in movies that what he does is "fake". lol

The intrigue of the 'sport' has drifted far into how they script it, and criticizing that.  To me, that has made it really boring and the internet and over-saturation has killed pro wrestling for the most part.

I tune in a few times a year.

I don't think the in ring chemistry for a lot of wrestlers is all that good.

The charisma of the wrestlers seems lacking too.

I'll say this again.  I believe MJF in AEW to be the best wrestler out there.  He is the full package.

was a massive fan from the AWA days of Hogan vs Bockwinkle all the way up to the attitude era. After that is when I stopped watching. Went to Wrestlemania X8 in Toronto. Was fun. Glad I did it. But that was close to the end for me.

    This is a good take.

Ultimately McMahon killed the sport. Monopolies crush competition of course, and therefore kill any motives. The product has basically been garbage overall since that happened. They had a good thing going into, and coming out of, WM40 but they ultimately fucked that up too. But the content got me to tune in more than I have in at least 20 years (and I'm back out again, outside of a handful events).

The stunts are real. The outcome is fake. If you enjoy it, more power to you.

At this point imo anyone who is just now saying "ok THIS is the last straw" are full of shit, and I'm just numb to most people being morons and incredibly privileged. I mean good on him for distancing himself now, I guess.
