"Light Years"
i've used hammers made out of wood
i have played games with pieces and rules
i undeciphered tricks at the bar
but now you're gone, i haven't figured out why
i've come up with riddles and jokes about war
i've figured out numbers and what they're for
i've understood feelings and i've understood words
but how could you be taken away?
and wherever you've gone
and wherever we might go
it don't seem fair...today just disappeared
your light's reflected now, reflected from afar
we were but stones, your light made us stars
with heavy breath, awakened regrets
back pages and days alone that could have been spent, together..
but we were miles apart
every inch between us becomes light years now
no time to be void or save up on life
you got to spend it all..
and wherever you've gone
and wherever we might go
it don't seem fair...you seem to like it here
your light's reflected now, reflected from afar
we were but stones, your light made us stars
and wherever you've gone
and wherever we might go
it don't seem fair...today just disappeared
your light's reflected now, reflected from afar
we were but stones, your light made us stars
I have lost someone this past year and this song explains that confusion that comes with a loss of a loved one perfectly.

If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.
Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.

The second i clicked on this thread, the song came on my play list. Interesting....
anyways i agree, it's beautiful."But you see, you get more for your money with the big ones. It's like a two for one special."
That was the line I used when dating to convince girls they should like fat guys.

i love light yearsAnd I wished for so long cannot stay All the precious moments cannot stay Its not like wings have fallen
cannot stay But still somethings missing I cannot say yea Holding hands are daughters and sons And their faiths are falling down down down down I have wished for so long How I wish for you today0 -
Light Years is a beautiful song..
I was initially surprised to see Light Years on the RVM hits record, however, after listening to my vinyl, I am very pleased that it was included.Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green0 -
I absolutely adore this song.... it came out around the time I lost one of my dear friends to cancer.... the song sums her up beautifully.
Love you Daphne.....
Charmaine~ Got Pearl Jam? Hell, who needs milk? (just a bottle of red will do thanks!)0 -
When I hear that song I think about a guy, 24 yrs old that has disappeared for two month ago now. I didn't know him well, I guess he's probably dead, it's very sad.To worry about tomorrow doesn't make it easier,
it only makes today worse.0 -

Light years was the first song that I listen from Binaural, and I have never forgot that moment and what it made me feel.Dissapearing_One wrote:hi everybody! I'm pearl jam fan from spain, is the firts time that i write here and i will keep posting

Hi Dissapearing One!I´m from Spain too!"The smallest oceans still get big,big waves"0 -
Listening to it right now on one of the bootlegs, it really is beautiful. This and Last Kiss helped me reaffirm my faith in someone I love. It's the tragedy and acceptance in the words and, of course, the way Ed sings it.
Unreal.Too many cowboys, not enough indians, so just go ape shit!
I may be boring but at least I'm not Jack fucking Johnson.
TV is such shit; let's go outside and ride bicycles, right now!

To me the lyrics to this song are poetic.
It's an amazing mix of sadness and celebration of the life that was lost.
I originally got hooked on the St. Louis boot version from 2003 because I was pretty slow getting Binaural. I think I prefer the pace and emotion in the live version, but I still love the recorded cut as well."No time to be void or save up on life...
You got to spend it all."0 -
the line we were but stones your light made us stars, makes me sometimes think of a secret message from the band to all of us who adore them.
They used to be just guys who got together and jammed (no pun intended) and our adoration we shine on them turned them from stones to stars.Sometimes "Majority" just means all of the Fools are in Agreement.0 -

I just love Light Years now, shame they didn't do a version on Benaroya Hall, that'd have been cool...Too many cowboys, not enough indians, so just go ape shit!
