This is one of my favorite PJ songs. It really describes some of my past relationships. BTW anyone who the binaural version should check out the Light Years Demo- pretty nifty.

  • listening to light years right now...i love it...i think its one of the most beautiful pj songs ever and it is also a (not the only) reason why i became a pj fan because there was a radio station (R.I.P.) which used to play it two times an hour (really) when binaural came out but i did not know by which band (does not look like correct english) it was and also not the title...then i found out that it was a pj song somehow and i only rememberd one single text line so i read all pj lyrics (chronological, of course) i was able to find on the internet...but you see this story had an happy ending

Right after I first bough Binaural and was listening to the cd for the 1st time, it was in my car after work late one night on the way home, and it came on. I've never cried like that from a song. I was dealing with my sick grandmother at the time, (still am because she's a fighter), but at the time we were told it would probably only be a couple of days and I lost it on the way home from work....For that, this song holds a big spot in my heart.
I traded magic for fact...then I traded back.

i love this song in more ways than i could ever describe.
They played a great version in Sydney during the 03 tour. It has a little tag at the end. I cant remember it though - even though i was there. Im going to have to go home and listen to it now!
  • It's one of a few songs which bring a lump to the back of my throat.

We were but stones, your light made us stars

    Possibly my favourite lyric ever
"All i want is for you to make love to me...that's just in the song, i don't mean it" Eddie (14-7-93)

yeah that line has been in my hotmail signature since I first heard it....definitely amazing lyrics. I really can't agree with you guys more on the Light Years opinions, and it also means a lot to me because of my grandmother.

Nashville 2003 - 'I need you, don't know if you know but i needed you'. The way he sings that line, his voice drops at 'needed' and it just breaks my heart.

Only played a few times on the '03 tour, each version is beautiful.

I just bought Binaural (Spelling?) and saw this thread so I put the song on, and it's a great song.
And Luthien Tinuviel, your name sounds familiar, Silmarillion?
I shouldn't have to fight a battle I'll never win, just to lose those I've never had.
  • a sweet love song, adoration beautifully expressed, beyond what she ever felt she really deserved. put on a petestal... she felt so good and so bad all at the same time.
".. days alone could have been spent together.. miles apart..."
yes it's about being in love with someone you can't have or be with.
there was her situation and there was his too..... she just couldn't overlook

" ... waking up heavy breathed "( kinda like a wet dream if you know what i mean, desire is what that's about ) yes he was in love with a secret love
maybe one day he will tell, maybe when he writes his autobiogrphy and that might be awhiles away ..smile

could you look at this song also in regards or sentiment as to loseing a loved one in death ?( as expressed earlier )
    yeah songs can glean different
or more than one meaning to an individual
  • so i just came back from listening to the live bootlegs of this song
    light years
and i always cry... but then i also like to dance some too to this song
the music is very good too !

    breakherfall
    save you
    parting ways
and even a throw back from when they first met
    the song-- corduroy
all about the very same woman, and it ain't beth or jill.

see, this ones for you - x
  • maybe i am one in more ways then one...............smile

Light Years is a beautiful song. Sadness, loss, regret and the realization of not being able to change the outcome, circumstances beyond your control. Could be about a broken relationship or loss through death.
Either way it's one of my favorites from Binaural. I think I'll go plug it in now!
You can't know what it's like, to bleed from here,
The blackened world goes white, it goes nowhere...

  • "your light made us stars "
refers to the two men who loved her
whom both incidently and quite coincidently wrote songs about her
  • trying to get next to you
  • :(
this thread...this song...just so needed a *bump* today.
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow

  • It makes a difference to see all the lyrics typed out like that... it makes me think of it as a beautiful poem from a great author along with a brilliant song... I lost my fiance very suddenly in a car accident a little over a year ago, and I agree that it touches me very deeply in a spot that not a lot of people can know about...
PJ fan since 1991 (I was 14); Ten Club member since '95.
  • One of the best fucking songs EVER!! OMG I love it so much!!!! And you all are right, there is so much beauty and mystery to this song, it makes me wanna cry!!

  • The lyrics for the Light Years demo mention
    "Puddle in a parking lot"
    "Fuck off an wait"
"We cannot pass again, at the end of the day, when we come back here."

I thought the song was about someone close to PJ's camp being killed. And Ed was so right about Light Years starting out as one song but completely turning into another.
  • to me this song fits two scenarios, (kinda like long road) - either death or you simply miss someone you love for whatever reason other than death (miles apart etc.)

    another great song.
I am the end of all your dreams...
  • This song came out two days after my best friend commited suicide, and did give me some comfort. The message everyone should take home from this is that for everyone you love, let them know NOW! Most of us have problems letting people know this and regrets are nothing you should live with. 7forest7
  • i know...it's such a beautiful song...but it makes me sad all the time...:(

my ears hear this as the final chorus:

    "Oh, you are never more beautiful than at the end of the day;
    Fuck-off and play…
    Oh, we can all run away;
Ah, we can all disappear…by the end of the day.
    And come back here…back here.
    Come back here... "

i adore this song! it has the power to make me cry or lift my spirits. i like it when a song can do that...they are few and far between.

it is currently the ringtone on my phone--too bad more people don't call me so i can hear it more often!
    i. am. mine.
  • I love that people are still posting on this thread. This song deserves all the praise.
  • Light Years is a boring song..... it sucks!

Just kidding, it's the song that made me buy the Binaural CD back when I was 17, or ..... 16??
