    Trump confirmed the operation on Wednesday, saying: “We’ve just seized a tanker on the coast of Venezuela – a large tanker, very large, the largest one ever seized actually.”

    “It was seized for a very good reason,” the US president added, declining to say who owned the vessel.

    Not sure how the sanctions actually work.
    We shouldnt but historically the US does whatever it wants unless an overwhelming amount of citizens come out in force against something.  Even then it only takes a couple years for the US to go back to doing whatever it said it stopped doing and wouldnt do again.

    from my understanding, the tanker was concealing its location or its origin country or something. The concern is that they were transporting Iranian oil. Under international law, it needed to be seized so that the owners could be dealt with accordingly. 

    With all the other boat stuff, I get how its a big story, but its less nefarious than it seems.

    I took Ponciers post to be in reference to the "millions of people who die annually in the US from fentanyl" claim that Trump made a few months ago. Which is ludicrous on its face.
