Highly disappointing. There still needs to be a couple of votes so I’m reaching out to my congressional delegation and asking them to vote no. Lot a good it’ll do but at least I will have registered my displeasure and that they shouldn’t trust the repubs, particularly CCOOTWH. They’ll rue the day but seriously, what’s the consequences for them? It’s not like they’re the ones going hungry or losing/paying more for health insurance. And half a billion for Capitol Police? What do you think that’s for? It’s too late. Far too late.

Workers get their pay guaranteed, firings reversed, food for the hungry, heap for the cold during winter, guaranteed a vote (cloture) in one month for ACA and if they can’t find four republicans to join them, it all shuts down again so you get to play this charade again in a little over two months.

its getting easy to see why Dems think electing a socialist who wants the elite wealthy to fork over a million dollars apiece when avoiding this new tax hike is easy as pie….dems have forgotten how to reason.

Right, because voting no guarantees they will shiver during the winter, not get any food assistance. We should elect zohran to congess immediately to save it, so he can get the elite to pay a million apiece across America to save it.

They won nothing but are doing this again in 2 months. If they would have kept this up, they probably would have done more damage to the republicans and Trump. And maybe would have gotten the filibuster nuked.

Yes. This is only the democrats fault. No one else’s and certainly not the party controlling all 3 branches of government. Get a grip.

Politics is about strategizing intelligently to position for future wins. That’s exactly what this budget deal does. There is ample evidence maga has forced a huge chunk of the Dems to lose their marbles

expecting the ultra wealthy to pay a million bucks apiece to deflate the property market on the easiest to avoid tax imaginable for a socialist fantasy…when this has failed spectacularly before is dumb.

making a deal that opens airports during the holiday season, gets heat for the poor for the winter… is enormously important NOW.

It gets food in the mouths of hungry now, and gets the senate automatically past cloture for an ACA vote in a few weeks is smart. Reverses fed workers laid off and gets them retro pay. Yet Dems are fantasizing they got nothing. This wing of the party is becoming dumber than maga.

AND this is only a couple months deal, so for those that want to fight again, they get what they want in a couple of months , so if they’re  right, they get to try to win this debate during the midterm year. If not, they lose this argument  in 26, Dems are toast. While they fantasizing socialism is popular in this country. I’m convinced.

I just feel that there were folks under stress who needed help if that’s what this does I can’t scream about it but I def can be disappointed that they basically caved on the ACA credits! We know damn well behind closed doors republicans are laughing at Democrats. It’s my opinion that this makes the Republicans look stronger in this game of chicken!

I hope there is something behind the scenes that we aren't aware of. Maybe Thune is saying that the subsidies will be extended if they go along.

There's just not enough time to trash the ACA and start something new which is likely what trump wants.

    Durbin.....

My statement on funding the government:

For months, Democrats have warned that health care premiums would skyrocket because the Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits will expire on December 31—and that this will affect everyone. But Republicans have done everything in their power, while controlling both Congress and the Presidency, to shut down the government rather than help Americans afford to go to the doctor and access cancer treatment or life-saving prescriptions.

For 40 days—the longest shutdown in U.S. history—federal workers went without paychecks. This includes our air traffic controllers, whose towers were already understaffed. They continued to work 10 hours days, six days per week to keep our airspace safe, with this additional stress at a life-saving job. All while the President has been fighting tooth and nail to avoid paying SNAP benefits to our nation’s hungry, while he builds himself a golden ballroom and perfects his golf game.

At Democrats’ urging, today’s bill is not the same one we’ve voted down 14 times. Republicans finally woke up and realized their Groundhog Day needed to end. This bill is not perfect, but it takes important steps to reduce their shutdown’s hurt. Not only would it fully fund SNAP for the year ahead, but it would reverse the mass firings the Trump Administration ordered throughout the shutdown.

Now that Democrats secured these wins, it’s time for Leader Thune to keep his promise to schedule a vote on the ACA tax credits in December and we will see to it that he makes good on his word for the millions of Americans worried they won’t be able to afford health care in January.

    Murphy

🚨👉US Sen. Chris Murphy on tonight's Senate deal to end the government shutdown: "This CR is a major mistake. Here are my thoughts on this important night.

Donald Trump and his Republican enablers caused the shutdown. And even more egregiously, Trump has gone out of his way to make it worse, most recently by illegally trying to use hungry kids as leverage to compel Democrats into submission. He is hurting people in order to enrich himself, destroy our democracy, and stay in power forever. His actions over the past month confirm this.

Bullies gain power when their misconduct succeeds in causing righteous people to yield in the face of their wrongdoing. That’s why voting for Trump's continuing resolution - without any protection against his health care cuts or his growing illegality - is a mistake.

Last Tuesday, people poured out of their homes and to the polls to reject Donald Trump, but also to urge Democrats to hold firm in our refusal to vote for a short term budget that throws millions of their health care and allows Trump’s corruption to continue, fully funded and unabated.

People know the government shutdown hurts. But people also know that Americans will die when millions cannot afford health insurance next year because of Trump’s massive premium hikes. They wanted us to continue that fight, even knowing that victory was not certain. And 7 million people rushed to the streets last month because they did not want allies of democracy to vote for a budget that puts no significant checks on Trump’s increasing authoritarian behavior. They did not want this outcome.

I understand my colleagues' desire to fund the government. What Trump has put people through these last few weeks is abhorrent. Of course I want to end the shutdown too. But not at any cost.

Standing up to a tyrant who is willing to impose pain in order to compel loyalty or capitulation is hard. Especially for people of good heart who never want to see people suffer. But there is no path to saving our democracy that doesn’t involve hard choices - some that involve enduring pain in the service of proving the demagogue's bullying tactics do not work.

Republicans have said they will discuss putting off the premium increases they set in motion once the government opens. If it does open, I hope they are true to their word. If they are not, and millions suffer as their health care costs double - all to finance a giant tax cut for billionaires and corporations - voters will know who to blame. Despite my deep disappointment at this deal, make no mistake - the evil that is about to be done on families with sick kids and high medical bills lays solely at the feet of Donald Trump and his Republican enablers.

This will not be the last test put to the defenders of democracy. There is no way to sugarcoat this moment. It will have a cost. But it is up to us to keep the fight going. There will likely be even bigger, more consequential moments ahead of us - more chances to stand together against this growing totalitarian inhumanity. The fight isn’t over - by any stretch."

Politics is about representing and fighting for the best interest of the people. These are short term gains that can (and most likely will) turn into long term losses.

But fucking god forbid people who have more pay a little more so that everyone has a safety net of some type.
