Thank you! California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced that the state will send its own observers to keep an eye on federal election monitors sent out by the Trump administration before the upcoming election.

Rahm Emanuel, seen as a potential 2028 contender, is pushing for a 75-year maximum age limit for individuals holding office.

“You can’t serve in the armed forces. You can’t serve in a private sector job,” Emanuel told reporters during a Christian Science Monitor event. https://trib.al/Rsz6sUa

*The following opinion is mine and mine alone and does not represent the views of my family, friends, government and/or my past, present or future employer. US Department of State: 1-888-407-4747.

I’d like there to be a Presidential Medical Commission for Fitness of Duty to be President whereas both parties in the house and senate select medical professionals from the following fields: psychiatry, heart and vascular, cognitive, mental health, oncology and general health primary care, or some other critical health care field. Each party would put out a call for applications to serve on the commission, review them to a high standard of qualifications and select 10 from each specialty, creating a pool of 100-120.

All candidates for POTUS to be eligible to be on the ballot would have to be examined by the 10 specialists, 5 from each party, and deemed fit for duty by simple majority or 2/3 majority. The 10 would be selected randomly by lottery, by each party and for each specialty, using the same method, ping pong balls with numbers, random number generator, etc. Medical professionals and candidates would be sworn to secrecy and acknowledge that the identity of the medical professionals is considered top secret and sharing the information would be considered treasonous, punishable by $1M fine and 20 years in prison.

Resume/application review and selection of the pool would occur in a SCIF and all applicant names/addresses would have been blacked out. Successful candidates get assigned a number and are notified by someone with a top secret clearance and sworn to secrecy. Non-selected candidates would be notified and eligible to re-apply. Reasonable travel expenses and a stipend of competitive hourly rates would be paid, tax free for their service if selected and required to travel to DC.

All exams would be conducted at Walter Reed or Andrews Airforce Base, over a weekend whereas all involved are sequestered. A medical report would be released to the public, identifying all medical issues with a final determination of fit/unfit. If determined to be unfit, there’d be an appeals process with a separate pool of randomly selected medical professionals and the doctors selected from those medical areas where the candidate failed.

Medical professionals would be in the pool for three years, with staggered terms so that every year some percentage of the pool is replaced. Doctors would be available for initial getting on the ballot exams and serving for the annual medical check ups, and any other health issues that might arise during the POTUS’s term.

All records and identities would be sealed for 50 years, except the medical fitness for duty and annual check up reports issued to the public. Height, weight, BP, cognitive exam, cholesterol, cardiovascular test and mental health information and medicines taken or taking would be released. Candidate/POTUS must finish their term by age 75 and would not be eligible for a second term if they turn 75 during any portion of their first or second term.

We gotta do something to keep narcissistic, out of touch, sociopaths out of the Oval Office, or someone incapable of making it through 4 years.

I disagree with the simple majority part. It should be unanimous approval for fitness. Otherwise, mental health experts could be voted down by those only examining physical fitness.

Florida state Sen. Ileana Garcia (R), co-founder of Latinas for Trump, blasted President Trump’s immigration crackdown, warning that he “will lose the midterms” because of homeland security adviser Stephen Miller.

BREAKING: House Republicans unveiled a sweeping elections reform bill that would mandate long-sought requirements like presenting photo ID when voting and citizenship verification to register to vote. https://trib.al/qEhVXlK

Susan Collins backs GOP's strict voting bill driven by Trump's fraud claims

Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins says she'll back a strict voter identification bill that would require a photo ID at the polls, proof of citizenship to register and require states to regularly turn over voter rolls to the Department of Homeland Security.

The proposal recently cleared the GOP-controlled House despite near unanimous opposition from Democrats, including Maine Reps. Jared Golden and Chellie Pingree.

Golden had supported a previous version of the bill, but he and three other centrist Democrats opposed the measure that cleared the House last week, 218-213.

The amended version includes a requirement that states turn over their voting rolls to the Department of Homeland Security to check for noncitizen voters, an extremely small number according to voting rights advocates on the left and right. Noncitizens are already barred from voting in federal elections.

In a statement, Collins said the photo ID requirement makes sense and that her support came after the bill was amended to remove a requirement that voters prove their citizenship at the polls — not just at registration.

    continues....

The administration plans to use claims that "China interfered in the 2020 election as a basis to declare a national emergency that would unlock extraordinary presidential power over voting.” The plan would mandate voter ID and ban mail-in balloting. The premise, it almost goes without saying, is a total lie. https://trib.al/R33K7zx

China did not interfere in the 2020 election. Trump and his people often said so, the implication being that China interfered on behalf of its old friend Joe Biden and his son Hunter, whose alleged business dealings in China left his father hopelessly compromised.

    None of it was true.

Hunter Biden did have some business interests in China, but nothing that reached his father. The U.S. intelligence services studied foreign influence in the 2020 election, and in March 2021, the government released an intelligence report concluding that China “considered but did not deploy influence efforts intended to change the outcome of the US Presidential election.”

In fact, the report found—and isn’t this a surprise?—the biggest foreign actor in 2020 was Russia, *trying to help Trump*: “The primary effort the IC [intelligence community] uncovered revolved around a narrative—that Russian actors began spreading as early as 2014—alleging corrupt ties between President Biden, his family, and other U.S. officials and Ukraine.”

Michael Garret NC State Senator adbook post.....

I need to tell you what I've seen. Not what I've read. What I've watched happen, with my own eyes, from inside the room.

They're not even hiding it anymore. And that's what scares me the most.

I'm a state senator in North Carolina. I am also a father. I have an eight-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter, and I think about the world they're inheriting every single day. And what I am witnessing right now, in my own state, in real time, is a masterclass in what happens when the powerful start to feel the ground move beneath their feet.

They don't listen. They don't evolve. They grab every lever they can find.

For nine years, politicians in my state have tried to seize control of how we run our elections. They passed laws to take over election boards. Courts struck them down. They tried again. Struck down again. They put it before the voters as a constitutional amendment. The voters said no.

Six times in nine years. The answer always came back: "No."

So, they changed the court. They changed the rules. And then they passed virtually the same law again, buried inside a Hurricane Helene relief bill, 131 pages deep, betting that the court they now controlled wouldn't stop them.

    They were right.

The NC Supreme Court voted 5-2, along party lines, to let it stand. And the justice who wrote the opinion? He's the son of the most powerful state senator in North Carolina, the same man whose legislation created the scheme in the first place. This is what a machine looks like. Not in a textbook. In real life. In your backyard.

And just this week, the man they put in charge of our elections, the one whose power this whole scheme created, showed up at an early voting site and publicly campaigned for that senator. Then he walked inside and chaired an elections meeting that same afternoon. The man who controls the elections, campaigning for the man who controls him.

I wish I could tell you this is where it stops. It's not.

Last year, when politicians in my state gerrymandered our congressional districts at the President's request, openly admitting the purpose was to deliver him another seat, I stood on the Senate floor for eighteen minutes and spoke against it. I talked about the promise we make to the next generation. About the people who bled at Valley Forge and marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge so that we could govern ourselves. About what it means when politicians choose a president's power over their own people's voice.

They didn't address a single word I said.

Instead, they voted, straight party line, to erase my entire speech from the permanent Senate record.

They couldn't answer the truth. So, they tried to delete it.

That's the moment I understood something I want every person reading this to understand: you don't erase words you're not afraid of. You don't build a machine like this if you think you can win without one.

    Their fear is the proof.

This isn't a North Carolina story. This is an American story. And some version of it is playing out wherever you live, in statehouses and county commissioner meetings and school boards, wherever powerful people have decided that the rules exist to protect them, not you.

They count on you not to notice. They count on the complexity, the bill numbers and the legal challenges and the bureaucratic shuffling, to wear you out, to make your eyes glaze over, to make you feel like you can't possibly keep up.

    Don't let them.

Because here's what they don't want you to see: right now, in a rural county in North Carolina, a sheriff with $39,000 in his campaign account is giving a man with $2.4 million and the full weight of a political machine a real race. The most powerful politician in our state is fighting for his political life, not because of some massive opposition campaign, but because the people in his own backyard started paying attention.

That's all it took. People paying attention.

I think about my kids every time I walk into that Senate chamber. Jack is eight. Charlotte is five. They don't know about gerrymandered maps or dark money PACs or election board takeovers. They know their dad goes to Raleigh to try to make things better. And someday they're going to look back at this moment and ask what we did when the powerful tried to rewrite the rules.

I want them to see that we didn't go quietly. That when they tried to erase the words, millions of people read them anyway. That when they built a machine, ordinary people showed up and threw sand in the gears.

Every machine ever built by powerful people who believed they were untouchable has met the same end. Not because a stronger machine came along, but because regular people, tired people, people with $39,000 and a whole lot of fight, decided they'd had enough.

The cracks are showing. Wherever you are.

    Push.
