some say ATH was too “woke.” guess what? for a network that talks breathlessly about trumpers like eldrick, TB12,  saban, rob manfred, jack nicklaus, mike gundy, 90% of team owners, saquon, etc, etc, etc. it’s sometimes refreshing to hear people not afraid to speak out.

ESPNs lack of baseball coverage is very telling.  They must not be getting paid by the MLB like the NFL is.  Also Karl Ravitch is terrible.
They are ending their contract with MLB after this season, option out 3 years early. They clearly don't see baseball as worth covering. So, more WNBA games in future summers....yay?
    That makes total sense.

ATH was an echo chamber though.  I enjoyed some of it but in the end it was who could remember the most "facts" or stats. I couldn't stand Pablo or Kines on there.

I hear you on the stats thing. Mina sure loves her "next gen" NFL stats. That said, I really like her and Pablo for their humor. I loved Cowlishaw's self deprecating humor. BTW, Tim's book about his sobriety after being a 30 year(?) drunk was pretty good.

I went to put the Euro League Final 4 for basketball on ESPN+ but the games were not being streamed.

And who knows why they weren't when they Streamed Regular Season games and the Best of 5 Quarterfinals.

during wednesday's cubs/padres game, ESPN announcer ben mcdonald (unlistenable) was asked about ESPN's opening night NHL coverage. Ben said, “There is zero chance I’ll be watching; I’m just gonna be honest with you." it was fucking great.

today, he said (no doubt pressured by the network) that he was "kidding." no, you weren't. it's fine. you're a baseball guy. there's nothing all that special about the first of 84 games. I'd say the same if asked about the WNBA or MLS. just own it. "I was kidding" sounds like something trump would say.

Tom McCarthy and Ben McDonald walked into a bar.
    The bar exploded.

    That's it.

Hockey, as you may know, has a sizable and passionate following. A huge part of the NHL audience is hockey first and pumped for opening night. They just can’t compare to the American sports. There’s still a ton of $$ in the NHL.

MLB fans should be embarrassed there is no game tonight for a sport paranoid about declining ratings. The dodgers play once in four days, will have two days off before tomorrow’s game and there are zero big four sports games today, and only a couple minor CFB games.

Huge missed opportunity MLB. They could have titled the game…”Goodbye ESPN, NBC Sunday Night will be huge ”

I don’t really get your point. my point is, who cares if ben mcdonald doesn’t care about hockey? and then, ESPN talking head buchigross says, re: the “zero interest ,” “how many postseason innings did Mcdonald pitch?”

how many minutes did bucigross (sp?) ever play in a professional sport? asshat take.

bottom line…no need to apologize. people like/care about different stuff.

ESPN now apparently considers WWE a “sport.”

and don’t get me started on their “experts” providing betting advice to the masses.

The shameless hyping of a goddamm kiddie event as a sport is lame.  Sign a deal and all of the sudden it is a sport.

I was out all day and night (yesterday), so when I got home, I put on Sports Center. Think it was the 2nd story in when they had that WWE. I turned the channel immediately.

With all conferences and networks streaming games, I cannot remember the last time I tuned into ESPN. Perhaps years ago when they had a few F1 races after the Speed Channel lost their contract. Sports Center has been unwatchable for decades, even when Stuart Scott was there.

don't hate me, but I never really loved stuart scott. that said, he was better than 90% of the "talent" they currently have. ESPN talks to a few listenable guests but their anchors pretty much uniformly suck.

I thought that started with Keith Oberman?
