"The best way to change something that's around you, something you don't like, is to change yourself. And I don't think you want other people changing you, I think the only person that can change you is yourself. So if you ain't happy, if you're reading magazines about generation x-ers and thinking 'yeah, I'm one of them', well fuck that. Don't let anyone tell you who you are. No, no. No one can tell me who I am."~ Eddie Vedder (9/26/96)0 -

I had all of this pent up emotion.. from what, i don't know. i spent three nights falling asleep to yellow ledbetter, listening with my headphones because my brother doesn't like pearl jam..
at the end of the song, when ed sings, "i don't wanna stay.." and he hits that high note, i choked and tears started running down my cheeks onto the pillow.
something just tweaked inside of me.. and i fell asleep. There's a fear they'll soon be parting ways.0 -
light years and thin air.
smile made me feel something so great but not tears."Time is on the side of the oppressed today, it's against the oppressor. Truth is on the side of the oppressed today, it's against the oppressor. You don't need anything else."-Malcolm X0 -
All or NoneThroughout the course of our lives,we will meet many great people. Friends, family, strangers who somehow cross your path and enemies; they all have something to teach you. Some will leave deep footprints and others will not. Just be sure to wipe your feet before you step into someone's heart.0

I still remember this one. Years ago when I first listened to this song by Dave Matthews. I don't think any song has hit me like this one, and I still haven't figured out why.
Standing here
The old man said to me,
"Long before these crowded streets
Here stood my dreaming tree."
Below it he would sit
For hours at a time
Now progress takes away
What forever took to find
And now he's falling hard
He feels the falling dark
How he longs to be
Beneath his dreaming tree
Conquered fear to climb
A moment froze in time
When the girl who first he kissed
Promised him she'd be his
Remembered mother's words
There beneath the tree
"No matter what the world
You'll always be my baby."
"Mommy come quick,
The dreaming tree has died."
The air is growing thick
A fear he cannot hide
The dreaming tree has died
Oh, have you no pity?
This thing I do
I do not deny it
All through this smile
As crooked as danger
I do not deny
I know in my mind
I would leave you now
If I had the strength to
I would leave you up
To your own devices
Will you not talk?
Can you take pity?
I don't ask much
But won't you speak, please?
From the start
She knew she had it made
Easy up 'til then
For sure she'd make the grade
Adorers came in hordes
To lay down in her wake
Gave it all she had
But treasures slowly fade
Now she's falling hard
Feels the fall of dark
How did this fall apart?
She drinks to fill it up
A smile of sweetest flowers
Wilted so and soured
Black tears stain the cheeks
That once were so admired
She thinks when she was small
There on her father's knee
How he had promised her,
"You'll always be my baby."
"Daddy come quick,
The dreaming tree has died
I can't find my way home
There is no place to hide
The dreaming tree has died."
Oh, if I had the strength to
I would leave you up
To your own devices
Will you not talk?
Can you take pity?
I don't ask much
But won't you speak, please?
Take me back, take me back, take me back...
Save me please.0 -
I always have a hard time hearing Neil Young's "Tell Me Why".
Sailing heart-ships
thru broken harbors
Out on the waves in the night
Still the searcher
must ride the dark horse
Racing alone in his fright.
Tell me why, tell me why
Is it hard to make
arrangements with yourself,
When you're old enough to repay
but young enough to sell?
Tell me lies later,
come and see me
I'll be around for a while.
I am lonely but you can free me
All in the way that you smile
Tell me why, tell me why
Is it hard to make
arrangements with yourself,
When you're old enough to repay
but young enough to sell?
Tell me why, tell me why
Tell me why, tell me why0 -

I've cried to Black and Thumbing my way a few times. Especially black.
I have one to add that Is new. I cried to Man of the Hour a couple of nights ago. My father suffered lung cancer 4 years ago, and was given 6 months to live, but he beat it. But now he has been told he will not walk again because his muscles have wasted away, etc. His kidneys are failing and he may be put on dialysis, so this song made me think of him, and all people who have lost their mobility or lost a battle to a disease and have to bring their lives to a slow suffering stop basically.0 -
release and thumbing my way can get me. anything on lou's magic and loss can get me. shawn smith's wrapped in my memory, although cheesy and misused by the sopranos, can get me. all of disinitigration, predictably. probably a bunch more that i've blocked out. there's two that stand above the rest, though. tom waits' kentucky ave can force you back into your childhood like no other song ever. but that's like a happy cry, so it cant go last. top billing goes to waits' a little rain.
she was 15 years old
and she'd never seen the ocean
she climbed into a van with a vagabond
and the last thing she said was "i love you, mom"
and a little rain never hurt no one.0 -
Daughter....."Dont call me daughter, not fit too...The picture kept will remind me!" DONT CALL ME!!!Don't need a raincoat, I'm already wet..0
-
Daughter made me cry once, in the middle of an open street, but for different reasons than the lyrics...
Man of the Hour has made me cry three times, once after the movie, and then twice after because it's so gorgeously lyricked (word?) and styled. Love it

Daughter has made me cry.
I bawled my way all the way through Crown of Thorns in Vegas... and for a few songs after until Stone started Mankind. Then I was suddenly happy.
Thin Air makes me cry... Cause it's for Stone's girl.

U2s WALK ON
at the garden in nyc during the elevation tour,
they rolled the names of all that perished on 9-11,
then they brought all these firemen ( about 100 )
out onto the stage, they all got mic-time,
very sad, very poignant
the band took all photos with all the firemen, down to the very last guy, then they played a few more songs before ending the showFor the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside
That it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive
