what exactly is their new direction? it has been the maga party for 9 years, and they are not changing until trump is jailed or dead.

Does a dead or jailed trump = changing GOP?  I have concerns.

I think Trump not being in the picture creates an unstable vacuum. But yes, very little will change after Trump. But I think you’ll see more threads of extremism look like the ridiculous thing they are post Trump.

Like when you have losers like Josh Hawley sponsoring a bill to curb stock investment for federal politicians, it shows there is some sense there (it’s a good idea). So it does give me hope that there is normalcy (ish) on the other side of Trump.

he is a cult leader. once a cult leader is jailed or dead, the cult falls apart because the next "leader" is less charismatic and holds less control over the followers.

I don’t love the ChatGPT route for answers, but I think these all make sense. I asked it “ How do cults manage to replace a leader? Are there examples of this succeeding or failing in history? How about political dictatorships or authoritarian regimes?”

It gave a lot of info, but distilled the success and failure patterns into a matrix. Leading to success:

Institutional strength - Party or church structure survives leader

    Succession plan -
Party or church structure survives leader

    Ideological flexibility -
    Can adapt to new conditions

    Charisma dependence -
    Low (transferable power)

    Violence at transition -
    Peaceful handover or managed transition

I think these make sense, but omit important things: does Trump care to be replaced by someone powerful, or did he just want to enjoy his power? Could the party institute a succession plan without (or even with) Trump’s involvement? What if he doesn’t participate in a permission structure for enabling transfer of power? What if the pot’s already about to boil and the violence is prevalent? What if the leader doesn’t want to transfer power but the party wants to save face - would they impeach to preserve some semblance of power instead of none? Well, I guess we’ll find out the answers to these questions in about two years when Trump’s campaign for a third term begins.

    That’s rich.

Trump rips Duncan over switch to Democratic Party: ‘Total loser’

President Trump ripped former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan for joining the Democratic party and falling out of the GOP, calling him a “total loser” for making the switch.

In an early Friday post on Truth Social, Trump said that Duncan was no longer wanted in the GOP because all he did was complain.

“Failed former Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan, of Georgia, is a total loser. Was never able to get anything done, all he ever did was complain,” the president wrote. “We didn’t want him in the Republican Party any longer, so I’m told he became a Democrat.”

He added, “Good riddance Geoff. You don’t even have a chance!!!”

Duncan on Tuesday pushed an op-ed published by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, saying the party switch has been coming for a while. The former lieutenant governor said his journey to becoming a Democrat began when Trump tried to “steal” the 2020 presidential election, an effort the former lieutenant governor denounced at the time.

He said that his time serving in elected office taught him the best way to “love my neighbor” is through public policy.

Duncan, in his essay, called out Trump’s signature tax and spending bill, which he argued would leave Medicaid funding “in shambles.” He also criticized the legislation’s cuts to funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and the impact it will have on preventing children from being hungry at school.

Additionally, he slammed the Trump administration’s immigration policies that he argues, “have turned into a lesson on how not to love your neighbor.”

Duncan endorsed former Vice President Harris’s campaign in the 2024 presidential election and spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August. He was later expelled from the Georgia Republican Party.
