I'm on my employer's pension plan, which is 28 years to full retirement benefits. I've got 8 years to go, but I'll only be 50 years old and my wife has already told me I can't retire if she still has to work lol. Plus, my son will only be 10 years old then and kids are expensive! I haven't really crunched the numbers, but I would guess retirement would be a viable option around 55 or 56. The big question will be do I retire from my employer when eligible and find another job or stay on and make the pension that much better? There are pros and cons to both, but it might just boil down to who my coworkers are.

You won't find too many folks clamoring to retire in those states when weather is factored in.
If you’re talking snow and such, it really doesn’t matter when you’re retired (like me). You don’t have to go anywhere or do anything. I actually love the snow, after 32 years in Vegas.

P.S. a guy I know who’s recently retired told me “NO ONE has ever said ‘gee, I wish I had worked longer’”

This was my thinking when I originally chose Colorado to retire in. Yeah it gets cold sometimes  but we get over 300 days of sun a year so that works for me.
Plus most of the residents and politicians are forward thinking progressives that want the state, as a whole, to keep moving forward.

These forums need a 👍 function.

17 years 3 months and 9 days until I'm eligible to cut out with full pension. Hopefully health is good enough and I won't be reliant on Social Security at that point. With no kids, we are looking to relocate, though not entirely sure where yet. Colorado has to have the early lead! Northern Montana? Arizona somewhere? Health and retirement benefits will factor in, of course

17 years? Yeah save as much as you can and contribute to your retirement plan 401/403, I just pulled the plug on a house/ brnb in Oregon on the Mckensy River, we pulled together 420k to buy it outright but the owner started putting more stipulations so I backed out, the moneys we pulled together was from our retirement funds but not all of it, and we still have our house to sell been priced at 675-690k

Did you mean an Airbnb? I've grown increasingly curious about those in recent years. I don't know much about it, but there is definitely a desire to acquire one and rent it out mostly to just make enough to pay it off. Then have a place to move to when I retire. Definitely have concerns and lack of understanding how to care for everything when I'm so far away though.

Yeah that was the plan but it and keep renting it out for Kayaking or White water rafting! We had all the info on how much income it generated and we had a company that can maintain it for us! I’ll keep looking I’m also looking up north from NY

We have always went with Geico for auto because they really do have great service if something happens. But the premiums are out of hand and we are shopping around. NY sucks, everything is expensive these days.
