Hopefully these partisan children don’t screw over any more people with disabilities, but I suspect they just don’t care. Doesn’t really read like they’re interested in talking, only imposing their preferred system on the rest of us.
Trudeau breaks a promise and they target Conservatives, makes sense…not!

And this is basically what I meant by the government we deserve. I suppose when the Conservatives take over from the Liberals criticism in this thread will shift to the Government instead of the Opposition, makes sense…not! (It’s not just the Liberals that get to quote Mike Myers, sorry.)

The only thing this group is likely to accomplish is a tightening of the candidacy rules, making it harder for individual citizens to participate as legitimate independent candidates.
Where is the direct line between flooding a ballot with joke candidates and setting up a citizens group to oversee election reform (sounds like a manifesto), a promise abandoned by the Liberal Party (making one scratch their head as to why they’re seemingly targeting Conservatives now)?

One does have to wonder why the change in policy wasn’t clearly stated in the Liberal election platform. Maybe they didn’t want to alienate Jewish voters before the election?
And will Parliament support this policy? I suppose maybe we’ll find out in September if the Liberal minority government is going to again disregard the will of Parliament, like they did with the green slush fund that we’ll probably never get a proper accounting for.
Elbows up!(?)

This column was quite informative and interesting, and I’m not sure of the answer to the question the headline asks.

One of the comments accompanying this column makes the very good point that the vast majority of the candidates have zero ties to the riding (but neither does Poilievre I hear the chorus sing), perhaps the answer is to only allow candidates that have some clear link to the riding.
As someone else points out, signing multiple nomination forms borders on fraud, since the signature implies one would vote for that specific candidate.

Not necessarily true. I have heard rumors of opposing parties getting memberships in their rivals parties to influence/vote for a weaker leadership candidate.
Again, I have no first hand proof of this, only hearsay.1996: Toronto

And I agree, any candidate should have to live in the riding they represent. I would go on to say that a candidate should have had to live in the riding for a set amount of time. Not sure how long, 1 year, 5 years? But it would prevent parachuting candidates in

I suppose I would agree with changing the rules to allow a voter to sign only one nomination, which would lend the impression that one has shown their vote in a sense. Behind the ballot screen they’re allowed to X any box they choose (or in Monday’s byelection write in their choice, lol), obviously."The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."

I tried to find it on his social media as well but could not. First time I've been down that rabbit hole in a while and I noticed he hasn't changed one bit. Good luck in the next election, Conservatives.Toronto 2000

In general terms it makes me laugh when a politician or party whine about an issue that is not fair to them. The Conservatives were in power for a long time (with majorities) and could have fixed or changed legislation on a variety of issues but did not. Then they go on to blame the opposing party for not doing anything. Liberals do the same thing.
Politicking sucks

And yet I don’t want to live in a system where it’s no longer feasible for the average individual citizen to throw their hat into the ring. A single nomination signature seems a reasonable place to start though."The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."
