It's also fun in salads or salsa style things, to freshen the flavors a bit.
I got tomatoes in the ground, the herbs are coming, all fruit trees bloomed. Some squash, some melon, some corn (not showing yet) and baby okras that will go in the ground after Pittsburgh. Nasturtium and wildflowers are seeded and sprouted too. And I planted two paw paw saplings last fall, and at least one of them is alive! I am rooting (no pun intended) for the other one as well.
Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue!
Great variety going there as always. Paw paw tree. Do you plan to eat the fruit? I'm pretty sure certain butterflies use it as a host plant.
I finally got my potatoes in. Purple and yukon gold. Put them in bags and covered with dirt. Might have crowded them too much but at least they are in. All plants look happy!

I would love to eat the fruit but I am aware that it may take a couple of years. Butterfly host is even better! Yay on the potatoes, we still have to get ours in too. All after Pitt.

Never tried to grow them. 1 per plant? Assuming it will grow another. Maybe try next season.
Just harvested a bunch of lettuce. Onions are not doing well in my community plot. At home look pretty good. Plan to plant stringbeans in their place. Cucumbers at home got munched by slugs. Put out a beer 'trap'. Put cucumber seeds in com garden. Those germinated. Should be eating peas kinda soon. Beets and turnips in about a month. Then garlic should be ready to harvest too. Basil seeds are slow to start. Potatoes look good.
those long things are garlic scapes. The stalk before it becomes a flower and uses the energy that is better spent growing better garlic bulbs. Have more scapes to harvest soon. I grilled them up a bit. Chopped and added to butter to use later. Really delicious mellow garlic flavor. Had a few onions that weren't doing well. Consolidated the good ones then planted stringbean seeds. A handful of turnips ready. Peas are producing. Good season so far!
I grow strawberry they produce runners and you pot up the runners they then produce more next year. Although the original plant still comes again next year. The runners are meant to produce better . Much like raspberries they spread

Funny. My dogs love to eat peas! Me too. We've been getting lots of rain so garden is growing well. Hooked on these garlic scapes too. Keeps the vampires away. Great time of year.
Aww that’s cute. My dog loves green beans and cucumbers. He hasn’t tried peas yet, but beefy Bob is an equal opportunity eater for sure. Are those snap peas or regular?
Snap. I hav regular shelling too. They didn't produce much yet. I find with shelling, you could pick tons, she'll them, and end up with a small amount. The snap are good this year and just eat the whole thing. You know.
garlic scapes and a couple onion blossoms? (Not sure what to call them) read to remove them for a better onion too. That butter adds something extra special to everything. Very mild flavor (to me) Excited about this gardening discovery. At my community garden someone snapped their scapes off and hung them on the fence. Thinking freebies? Or maybe they are doing something else with them.
It looks like my housemate Justin is doing really well with some pumpkin seeds I brought home for us a few weeks ago. I think I must've gotten the seeds from either Safeway or Home Depot, & he kew what to to with them from there. He said to me that they should be ready some time in September, so I took a pic of his grow spot in the back yard
Heck of a lot of arugula aka rocket. Had to be a little relentless pulling some out. Crowding out my peppers, tomatoes and everything else. Bud wants some seeds so I'm passing it on. Went to a local farmstand and this stuff sells for like $5 for a small amount. Easy to grow if you like it. Washed/bagged/put away My secret to cleaning greens. Put in a large pot of water, lift the greens out, dump water, repeat. will likely turn some of this into a pesto. Never tried that. Maybe freeze it.
