Jason Isbell

My biggest issue with Jason is he ignores 70% of his catalog and basically anything before Southeastern other than the 3 DBT songs he still plays. He’s also been a touring musician for more than 20 years now with an extensive catalog and his shows are under 2 hours and cost near $100. Of course I still go see him multiple nights every time he comes to town. This show, another show, a show here and a show there.0

I get the impression outside of 4-5 tracks, he thinks the Sirens, S/T and Here We Rest material isn’t up to his current standard and for the most part he is right. But yeah, there’s some favorite he just lets waste away.0

I saw him once on the Sirens tour, and 3 times for S/T and man, he was great back then too. S/T is still a top 3 album of his for me.0

I'm partial to Sirens...that's a great album and was a great tour. I faded on s/t and Here We Rest but Southeastern brought me back. I'd really love to see some of those Sirens songs make a return but the man has his reasons.0

I'm super jealous of all that have seen him pre-southeastern. While I love his latter half, I really love his early stuff. I have seen about half of Here We Rest, but nothing from ST or Sirens. While I did enjoy the most recent show, mostly because it contained new songs, it was a huge missed opportunity IMO. To bill it as "An Evening With..." and still come out and play just 18 songs is a bit of a cop out. It is easy to hide behind an opener, letting them play 730-815ish, come on at 9, end before 11; they came on at 7:15 and were off right around 9pm.
Not to mention that ticket prices for this tour were a big jump up. Not just inflation jump, a good bit more for all shows I looked at (and Savannah which I went to). The 400 Unit can PLAY, let them spread their wings and open up the catalogue.9/1/00, 4/28/03, 7/5/03, 7/6/03, 7/12/03, 10/1/04, 9/28/05, 5/27/06, 5/28/06, 6/1/06, 6/27/08, 6/30/08, 8/7/08 (EV), 6/12/09 (EV), 10/27/09, 10/28/09,10/30/09, 10/31/09, 5/21/10, 6/15/11 (EV), 9/2/12, 7/19/13, 10/21/13, 10/22/13, 10/27/13, 4/28/16, 4/29/16, 8/7/16, 11/4/16 (TOTD), 8/18/18, 8/20/18, 9/24/21 (EV&Earthlings), 9/26/21, 9/11/2022, 9/14/2022, 9/7/2024, 9/9/2024, 9/12/2024, 5/16/2025, 5/18/20250 -
Just got home from Edmonton after the Jason Isbell show last night. All I can say is, what an absolutely amazing concert. Gorgeous venue and the sound was insanely good. His band is so great live and the new songs sound wicked with the full band.I hope he releases a live album with the new songs with the full band. Top 10 show for me probably.0

It was just what we needed to get us off our asses and get to the show. We'd made a note about the May 13 Vancouver show but hummed and hawed having never seen Jason before and we barely know any of his material. Picked up some last minute tickets and we absolutely loved it!Post edited by DJ253147 on0 -

A new mix of Something More Than Free was released today for its 10th anniversay and it sounds Fantastic.
An outtake was tacked on too. Its a rework of Seven Mile Island, but it shows at its heart new or old, song rips.https://youtu.be/3UE56vKVuYE?si=CDDFki0J8uoojiqM

I was just about to ask if anyone had listened to the new mix yet. Thanks for the input Tim!!
Will listen tomorrow when I get back from camping.0
