Hugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall after a very restful summer exploring the Great Canadian Wilderness and beaches, listening to Pearl Jam, Headstones, Watchmen, Queens of the Stone Age, and many others.

they were on fire. unfortunately no peopleskills. I love that album, more than Flight Risk or Little Army. but, I guess it'll be the "forgotten album" since it came out just before covid.
and it seems they are abandoning anything pre-reunion except hits. I guess with 9 albums, when you only play 16 songs a night, that's what you do.

so after 30 years of being a hardcore fan of this band, a pre-everything-else-known demo has surfaced. I started a facebook fan group for the band a year or so ago, and made another guy from Toronto a co-admin. He has a shit ton of HS stuff, and knows a ton about the band. Someone privately reached out to him asking him if he knew of the band's first demo, when they were called Big Nothing, and asked if he was interested in buying it.
I have never heard of them being called Big Nothing.
I knew nothing of this demo.
My co-admin had the demo digitized and sent it to me. This is some raw shit. Some songs ended up on their first HS record. Others were on HS demos. But a few of these I've never heard.
This is like just finding out PJ was once called Mookie Blaylock and never hearing Mamasan before.

There is a music video for Gun that is attributed to the Headstones that Muchmusic played a bit. Never knew where that song came from. No fan I knew, knew either. Now we know.

Hopefully they do a tour for the new album and include a stop in Victoria. I'm not sure why, but they stopped coming to Vancouver Island. They used to play here consistently then stopped. Haven't played here since before covid :(
wait, May 31 is a Saturday. Release day is Fridays. Maybe Hugh is messing with us again.

Is this from an upcoming album? Still need a headstones tour to make a Victoria stop. They haven't played here since before Covid. It's been a long while. They used to play here on the regular. One of the best bar bands around.
Not sure. Hugh said a while back that the new record would be out May 31st. Which is his birthday. But Hugh says a lot of shit that never happens. If the new record was scheduled to come out in a month and a half, an announcement would have been made by now. This new single is not being called "the first single" or anything like that. It might be standalone as their first release with their new label, Dine Alone Records. Since this is a collab with City and Colour, they may not have wanted to lose publishing money to Dallas Green on an entire record. However that works, I'm not sure if that would be the reason or not.

I very highly doubt it. They already reissued POH on deluxe cd in 2018, and the subsequent records up to 2011 all have Dale Harrison on drums and Hugh HATES him. Not to mention most of those albums all being on MCA.

there's money to be made and i say it because all the other 90's cancon bands have had their 90's stuff released on vinyl in the last few years... I don't think formerly being on MCA will be an issue at all.
Well I think it would have to be heavily pushed by the band, which it won’t be. They had some hits in the day, but there isn’t as much demand for vinyl for HS as there is for Tea Party, Big Wreck, etc.

I wish Finger Eleven would do some headline shows in the northeast US again. I haven't seen them in like 20 years and can't find any headline dates that I missed. This is a solid tour but on the off chance they actually come through here it's usually opening for 2 or 3 butt rock bands.

haha, yep. last they played here a year or so ago headlining it was at this remarkably small venue that sold out instantly. it was odd.
