Tried a lesson when I was out there and couldn’t get the hang of it in one lesson.  Definitely want to try again as obviously it requires a little more time to figure out.  Maybe a week long set of lessons if I can ever have a reason to be out there again…PJ…
Took me two summers to stand up. There’s so much more to it than standing. Reading the water, paddling out, paddling for a wave, wave selection, knowing how to fall….. it’s not something that can be rushed. Which goes for a lot of things! But it was the most rewarding feeling for me personally.
I definitely felt that there were way too many little things to get right to process it all at once.  My takeaway was not frustration but just the knowledge that I will have to invest quite a bit more time in it to learn it. My life doesn’t have that luxury right now but maybe one day I will have the time.

There was only one Dark Matter Canadian stop these past two years. And that was Vancouver. A little shocked there wasn't a Toronto or Montreal date on this run. Or yet a Halifax date ...  Hopefully next time they play those cities they play more tunes from Dark Matter.

From the outside it does seem like they ended the DM tour earlier than what might have originally been planned...  No South America, limited shows in Canada and Europe - even before the cancellations it was a limited European run, skipping usual tour stops in Italy, Benelux and Eastern Europe completely...  that doesn't really make much sense based on the investment in the new stage set-up, how much they seemed to enjoy playing the new songs and how proud they were of the album.

Total speculation but I do wonder if a factor in officially drawing a line under the DM tour is being able to play sooner in the cities in Europe that were cancelled.  Insurance payments limit the ability to play anything that could be any way conceived as a rescheduled date - so maybe next time it needs to be a different tour??

I thought some South America shows are more likely than a TEN or a11 on the scoreboard 2025.

agreed on this, it was the first time going to shows for a new album hoping to hear as many new songs as possible. didn't really have that feeling at all for the few albums before Dark Matter. I even find myself going on Nugs just to listen to different versions of DM songs only, really hope the band realizes this and keeps touring for it.

The way this band has been fucked by fate from 2018 to now...it's a sight not seen since the 90s and Ticketmaster.

2018: There could have been a new album and obviously more shows than what we got.

2019: Had the 2018 album happened, 2019 would have been a busy touring year.

2020-2022: How few shows did they play in those three years? Not a lot.

2023: Nine shows announced, but only eight happened.

2024: A fairly busy year, thanks to a new album.

    2025: Not that many shows.

    2026: Most likely nothing.

    2027: TBD.

Let's say the 2018 album happens and COVID doesn't happen. It's anyone's guess.

Although, typing this out, I wonder when the "seed of doubt" started to creep into Matt's head. I'm guessing he was committed to touring Gigaton. Dark Matter was recorded in 2023, so I wonder if the seed was planted then.

I think it's a safe guess the band knew Matt was done by the time they took the Hollywood stage. If Matt didn't retire from Pearl Jam, I bet they tour Europe in June/July 2025, aka right now. I'm guessing he told them late last summer, or else the rumors and leaks for Europe would have happened.

August/September 2024: "Hey guys, this is probably gonna be a surprise, but I'm not really feeling it anymore. Let's just do a small run of shows early next year and maybe keep the door open for late 2025. Let's not talk to our usual Europeans about touring there next June/July."

    Things come in threes:
    1) The 2018 album.
    2) COVID.
    3) Matt leaving.
