You all don’t want to see the little bit of NYC wildlife I saw crawling up my kitchen sink the other day. Ugh.

I woke up to a loud “gobblegobblegobblegobble” sound.

“That can’t be what it sounds like” I thought to myself.

2 seconds later I heard it again. I stood up on my bed and looked out the window and waddling across my lawn was a giant fucking turkey.

    Nice close up!

I love it when the turkeys come around to visit.  We've had large gaggles of them at time now and then (once, around 20 or so!)  The males are especially cool to see when that fan out their tails.

Come to think of it, just yesterday someone slowed down their car fairly quickly in front of us as we were coming home.  Turned out they were slowing down to let a turkey hen and her chicks finish crossing the road.  Too cute!  Wish I'd gotten a photo.

turkeys are not common in my area. It was heading towards one of our busiest streets. And that pic was taken on the other side of that street, which means this turkey crossed that road. That's insane. We do have deer that cross that road constantly, but they are a tad more agile that this guy.

I live so close to downtown we often have homeless walking around rummaging for cans. It's weird to have a wild turkey walk across my lawn.

there's an owl's next across my back lane in my neighbour's yard, at the very top of the tree, about 75 feet up. I once heard him hooting one evening. I went out and could see his eyes. Only time I've ever seen/heard him. Very cool. Love owls.

I love owls too. Since i was a little kid, my response to the question, "what animal would you want to be?" has always been the great horned owl.

We hear hoot owls in our neighborhood a few times each year and they sound so amazing!
But I didn't know they can sometimes attack people.  The first time I heard about that was just last week.  A friend of mine who lives about a half hour from here was outside one evening and heard what he described as a thumping noise coming from a couple of small owls and then suddenly one of the rocketed down from a tree, dive bombing him and hitting him on the head.  A day later his head still felt sore and he was amazed at how hard this small critter bonked his head.  He must have gotten too close to their nest.
