Question for those at Philly 1 in 24’

truckin24truckin24 New Jersey Posts: 36
I have been attending concerts for the last 10 years now. I have seen over 75 different acts in venues big and small. Some short sets, others much longer. Most were great, some were incredible, but when it came to this show, finally my first Pearl Jam show, being a fan since I was a kid, and finally seeing them with my father, I had very high expectations. The show was a religious experience. I have never felt the way I felt at that show, not with any artist I’ve ever seen. I was curious if anyone who was there felt similar, or if this is just a PJ first show phenomenon. The band seemed like they were in top form, and the crowd just gave it all right back. Eddie acknowledging the crowd after Red Mosquito was just the icing on the cake…

    Not just there.
I had a similar experience in Fenway last year. Been a fan since 1991 but couldn't go to shows until last September. Yes, almost a religious experience. Wouldn't come down for days.
That's the effect they still have on so many.

I have been to 40 PJ shows and still feel this way when I see them.

I think the answer to your question is "both." I think one's first PJ show generally is an eye-opening experience. We went to one show on a whim, in 2008, and were so blown away that I was depressed afterwards to think that I wouldn't have that experience again for a long time. So, on impulse, we picked up tickets to another show. 40+ shows later, here we are.

But that particular Philly show was the best concert of the tour and one of the best I've ever seen. It's not, uh, common to see the upper-level folks on their feet, singing along to "Red Mosquito," which is a pretty deep cut for non-fans. Both the band and the crowd brought everything they had to that show.

Kills my soul every time. In a good way.

Yes Philly crowds are some of the best too.

Have not been to a show since 2018. So I pass the torch to you!

    Very happy to read this.

I drove five and a half hours to Philly for a show back in 2016 on another 10C member's word that he would sell me his extra GA ticket.  We met up outside the arena and then we ended up going to a dive bar in some nearby neighborhood before the show.  He brought up the "religious experience" aspect of live Pearl Jam.  That feeling exists for sure.  If you can go to a Philly show(s)....always go! This band kills Philly!

Been to countless shows, and I always come out saying that there is no other place in the world I’d rather be. I was there for both Philly shows, and N1 was one of the best shows I had seen in the last few tours. Energy was amazing, band was in top form, and the set list was incredible. N1 is a top 3 show for me.

This.... 30+ shows under my belt going back to '98, with some of those being real bangers, and Philly 1 '24 is about as good as any show I've ever seen them play.

Something extra happened between the band and the audience that night on a level I've only seen a couple other times.

Hartford '13 is THE show I hold Philly 1 '24 up to... easily the two best shows I've seen this band put on.

Alone... Long Road... Last Exit.... Long Road... Immortality... Save You.... that night was other worldly. & Yes... Elderly to the back of the house sounds about right. What a f'n night.

    Loudest PJ show I’ve attended.

The live show experience is the reason we’re all in this fan club. I think that, because of when this band emerged, how they have evolved and endured, and the context of how each of us connected to them, every show is a religious experience for someone. I knew from my first show that I would never miss another show (in reasonable proximity). I share this because of the comments here about Hartford 2013, which is, objectively, their best show ever.

Perfection is the word... I don't skip a single track on the Philly boot from last year, something I can't say about Hartford 2013.

I felt exactly the same way, and it was my second favorite show I've ever attended. Everything from the crowd engagement, to the setlist, to the people I was personally around. Also when the Singles songs show up it always feels extra special, they just hit different in the best way.

On paper, I'm taking Philly 1 > Camden.

Having said that, setlists don't tell the whole story, so I'll defer to anyone who was there for both.

PS: You're missing Indifference as the Philly closer.

Sorry bout Indifference.. corrected. Camden was great, less of an Album tour so a few more from other albums. Philly 1 as great as it was, Lotta Philly/Camden shows would have something to say

    No apology necessary.

IMO, ranking shows one wasn't at is a fool's errand... I can only compare those that I was at, so I'll take your word for it.

When you take into consideration that this Philly show was in fact an album tour show but yet didn't quite feel like one, speaks volumes. This show didn't feel like any of the other Dark Matter shows in the tour. It felt to me like the band was just playing with more intensity and energy for this show.

I was at both shows.  Both were fantastic and it’s hard to choose.  I do remember Ed telling the audience at Philly 1 that people were going to love the bootleg. Or something to that effect.  So I’m going to go with Ed and say Philly 1.

Philly has been a better show than MSG for quite a few years now.  It seems they hit harder there than before.  Now they still can make MSG's building move mind you but the Philly shows are just better.
