I’m nervously reading news reports about air traffic controller shortages at airports in NY and NJ. And now United Airlines, which were flying, is warning people about delays and cancellations. I just read an article saying United is canceling 10% of their flights daily right now. I guess I will look on the bright side and be happy there’s a 90% chance we’ll be ok. 😭 😂
May just have to be ready to drive the day of the flight if necessary.
Got stuck in this last week. Our flight was delayed almost seven hours from Chicago to EWR. The drive would have been shorter :( We were already planning on driving down for this, thankfully. Is that an option for you?

It’s definitely an option. I’d prefer to fly but we’ll see what happens. I’ve driven way further for a show before so it’s not a big deal. Fingers crossed!

Are there any recommendations for restaurants in Raleigh? Looking for any great BBQ places or regular eateries.
BBQ If you're looking for old school classic BBQ, Ole Time BBQ is close to the venue and is outstanding. My favorite is Clyde Cooper's downtown. Both will get you right. If you're looking for a more modern take on BBQ, Long Leaf Swine is pretty good. Not a fan of The Pit but it's pretty popular.
Southern Soul Food Big Eds, State Farmers Market Restaurant. Beasleys if looking for something more modern.
Seafood St Roch's downtown is awesome. Kinduva creole joint with upscale cocktails, raw oysters. For traditional calabash style fried seafood, the Farmers Market Seafood Restaurant is a 10.
International I posted this somewhere here already, buried deep in the history, but that intersection of Chatham and Maynard has a few dozen of the best little restaurants in the city: Jamaican, multiple regions of china, Himalayan, el Salvadorian, Iraqi bakery, many different regional Indian restaurants, etc.
If looking for something more specific lmk -- I know the area and food scene very well.
I'm staying at the Marriott Courtyard Raleigh Cary Crossing and there are a few spots near by that I was wondering if they'll be worth the walk. Any help/advice would be awesome. Thank you
Carolina Ale House BJs Restaurant and brew house Verde Cocina Seol Grille Tenko Japan
Sam Jones is classic very old school eastern BBQ, they are excellent. If you want some of the best brisket ever travel up to Knightdale for Prime BBQ, first James beard Nominated BBQ in America.

I had fucked up and only put a qty of 1 on my Ten Club form for Tuesday. Luckily for me, I was able to find a pair a few rows down in the same section so now my son can go with me!

Just read this: Travelers should consider shuffling their flights to neighboring airports, as a federal air safety employee told MSNBC correspondent Tom Costello that safety is a concern. “It is not safe. It is not a safe situation right now for the flying public,” they reportedly said. Costello added: "Really an incredible statement, unsolicited. He just said that to me, and separately: ‘Don’t fly into Newark. Avoid Newark at all costs.’”

Thank you… I’ve seen this reported. We're monitoring it closely. Our flight for next week departed on time today so that’s encouraging.
There was an equipment failure out of Philadelphia that affected the radar tracking of planes at Newark. That was understandably really traumatic for the controllers working that day. And they are entitled by their contract to take time off when something like that happens. With there already being a shortage of controllers, the time off really slowed things down. There is also one runway at Newark that is under construction so that is not helping. But the slow down is actually a good thing for safety even though it sucks for travel. The delays and cancellations are intentional so they make sure things are being run safely. They don’t want to overburden the system. It is what is as far as delays and cancellations go. We can always drive if it comes down to it.
I remember being on a plane for Florida one winter and they delayed us on the tarmac while they de-iced the plane. And people were complaining that we were delayed! I was like… I’ll sit here all day while they make sure the plane is safe to fly.

That's close to where I live! I haven't been to Tenko but the others are all good -- I mean, you're not going to be blown away but solid, clean restaurants with good menus. The first two are very American pub food type joints -- burger and a beer. Seol Grille is my fave of the others.
If you're looking to venture just a little further away there are some local gems -- Thai Villa is fantastic. Shiny Diner is a great breakfast or lunch spot. There are some amazing taco trucks down Buck Jones road, with the best one located at the Little Sue Mini Mart. Victorio is another good one.
Also the Grand Asia Market has a little hot line and restaurant inside that is VERY good.
You're close to Cookout, which is a southern fast food joint you may not have had, depending where y'all are coming in from. It's worth the experience. Great shakes, burgers, sides. Also you've got a Waffle House nearby for late night grub or breakfast.
Thank you! I REALLY appreciate the insight and recommendations. I'm driving down from the Philadelphia area on Sunday, very early on Sunday. I'm going to print all of the info you provided and keep it with me for reference. I'll have nothing to do on Monday, so I'll likely go out and experience what I can there. Thank you!
