Love this song.  Think it would also fit as the first set closer instead if that being Porch so often

It's been cloudy and muggy here all day. I'm at the laundromat, listening to DM, and literally the moment Setting Sun came on, the sun finally broke through the clouds. It lit up the whole place, and I could feel it through the windows on my back. And literally the moment it ended, it dipped back behind the clouds. Can't make this shit up.
Well, I mean you could make it up, but We All Believe you for some reason.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Is there CELLO in this song??? Is this possible???

I was in a black hole for this song, and found this. Don't know who this is. There's a bunch of PJ stuff on the channel. I guess he/she breaks down.the songs based on whatever comes through the different channels. The videos are pretty interesting.

I think the final product on the record is pretty perfect, but man if there was cello/strings in the final version...🔥🔥🔥😭😭😭🎻🎻🎻

I use to absolutely love this song. Now I just crumble to pieces when I hear it.

The power of the lyrics to Setting Sun shakes me to my core every time.
"if you could see what I see now
You'd make your way to stay somehow."
That lyric rips my heart out, having recently dealt with the loss of my dad.
Pearl Jam's lyrics have so much soul and I am so grateful for the authenticity they show in their song writing decade after decade.
That being said, if any shows I'm going to open with "Release", and there's a girl sobbing loudly beside you, don't worry, it's probably just me😆.

Just play it once in Raleigh. That's all I'm asking. Still bummed this wasn't played at Ohana last year as great as the festival was.

I am so grateful to have heard this 2 times this year live. (As well as both Vegas) 3 of those times as a closer.

That Hollywood n1 version was nothing short of spectacular. I had chills/ goosebumps down entire body..I didnt want that song to end..it is the perfect closer. Let us not fade

I might have to take some time off from work to think about this song as an opener. Might be lunacy, might be perfect, might be both.

I might leave if it's ever opens a show I'm at, because after that what's the point lol? I will have heard it, and will have been blown away by it, maybe quit while I'm ahead. Who needs the other 24 songs?

    Kidding. But not really.
May your days be long, til kingdom come.

It's cloudy and rainy here in NYC, but I'm gonna leave work in a bit and drive up the FDR and blast this song, maybe the whole hour of my ride home, and hopefully catch a glimpse of the setting sun on some of the buildings, or maybe the East River, and I can't fucking wait.
May your days be long, til kingdom come.

Are we all in agreement that 34 years on, this is now a top 10 PJ song?

Their closers are all pretty great, The End & Future Days aren’t on the level of the rest but good songs

    Setting Sun is remarkable

    Release
    indifference
    immortality
    around the bend
    all those yesterdays
    parting ways
    all or none
    inside job
    the end
    future days
    river cross
    setting sun

I made a playlist of them, it’s a nice Evening listen

Immortality is not the closing sing though, it might be where you turn the album off, so do I. But it’s not the closer, Stupid Mop is. That is how the band intended the album to close: I’ll die on that hill.
