I've been waiting for Whip It FOREVER too! I am about ready to just go the Red Box and get it

Earlier this year I read about a deal Netflix made with some of the studios where they have to wait so many days before renting out new releases because the studios felt they were losing money on sales so if people have to wait longer for the rental maybe they will just buy it instead. Something like that. Kind of explains the excessive wait on some stuff.

    interesting...
dunno how true it is, but interesting none the less.
we get many new releases *immediately*, day of release, thru netflix...but others, such as above....wait forrrrreeeeeeevvvvvvvvvveeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. i had also read about netflix holding back rentals on those who rent a lot, return quickly, etc...figuring they rather lure their newer customers with the new release before old. i get it, but not. how about reward all? we rent a LOT...go thru a lot. tho nowadays, we mostly only keep new releases on our queue, and we have a TON of flicks on our 'saved' queue, awaiting their DVD release. we actually left netflix for a year or so, tried blockbuster online, b/c of the whole waiting thing. blockbuster was ok, but they did not have a mot of flicks i wanted to see, even online, too 'family-friendly' in their selection, left out more controversial titles i guess, which i still to do this don't understand. obviously, we returned to netflix, and overall, happy with their service, but sometimes.....

and claire - i know viggo ain't lookin' hot in that flick, but it doesn't matter. it's still viggo. ;)

How about you go outside one in a while??? ya know, the great outdoors?

i'm outside all the time nowadays.....LOVE being outside. watching a DVD takes no more than 1.5-2 hours...hardly keeps you inside indefinitely. however, not sure what any of that has to do with my comments about netflix service? :? two separate issues, no?

Thank you for preparing me! Although I did just see him in "Appaloosa" and I had a hard time with the circa-1890s style and facial hair.

was going through some old boxes and found two boxes that had some VHS tapes in them. About half of them were stuff I taped off the tv. There were like about 5-10 of them that weren't labeled though. I still have my VCR and it worked last time I used it (which was like 5 years ago. Will have to try and set up my VCR to see what is on the tapes (if I remember how to do it :confounded:).

Clash of the Titans - original 80s version.
Was my favorite go-to movie as a kid when I was sick. My kids were sick this weekend, so I put it on. They lasted about 10 minutes before they asked for something else.

Tried connecting my VCR to  my tv. Didn’t quite work for some reason. I’m pretty sure I connected all the cables coriander all and had the right input on. I could get audio but no video and the audio only lasted a few seconds before it said nothing was connected 😕

I have VCR hooked up to my TV (aka a 90s tube TV) but I stopped using it because switching the sound over from the DVD player cuts out sound and the tangle of wires to redo it would be a major headache.

But I also have a small TV with a built in VCR and it still works.    I also have 31 six-hour VCR tapes--  186 hours!--  of stuff I recorded off of TV, mostly music.  I'd love to get them transferred over to discs I could play in my DVD player, but the cost would be enormous!  So once in a long while, I drag the little TV/VRC player out and watch a bit that way.
It's amazing how fast all this technology changed in the last 20 or 30 years.

Yeah, I think the youth are more likely to watch streaming channels than DVDs nowadays anyway.

John Wick is the next film waiting to be watched in the Xbox.

I still have probably 200 VHS tapes, all good, just because I don't know what to do with them. Nobody wants to buy them or even take them for free. I don't even have a VCR anymore.

This was only about 6 or 7 years ago, when I lived in Colorado. Just down the street from us an elderly couple, nearly every weekend during nice weather seasons, would set up one of those EZ pop up shade tents, and set out hundreds of VHS for sale and just sit there.
Of the hundreds of times I drove buy over the several years we lived there, I don't think I ever saw a single customer.

Nothing right now as it's on the top shelf of the spare bedrooms closet. The last VHS it played was probably Mallrats.

Lol. I never knew anybody to ever own a laserdisc player. Even the families of the rich kids I knew didn't bother with them.
