I’m not pro china. Or the US. I’m more into democracies to be honest.

But the great businessman and dealmaker just being a panicking bully. hah.

    Good.

    Absolutely. Vote with your money.

if I were to point out the irony of a major tourist sporting event just concluded…enjoyed by some commenters from a country blaming and hating “Americans” for something 250 million of us had nothing to do with…

but at the same time enjoying an American tradition like no other, taking place in a 100% republican trump supporting environment with mostly trump supporting participants, would that be characterized by any other commenters on this forum ironic? (I’ll challenge this place to discuss this topic without the normal nonsense.)

I can't dig in to the data on that post since it's behind a pay wall with FT, but based on the chart, it also includes last year at this same time so I would say it is directly related to Trump and less people traveling here, regardless of any sporting events. That graph shows a complete tanking of travel. Similar to the stock markets, almost every marker of the economy looks like that graph the last month. Frightening how one country's president can do so much damage domestically and abroad. If only the other branches of government would reel in the crazy.

Yeah, travel from Canada is WAY down too. Like WAY WAY WAY down. I personally don't know a single person who is currently willing to travel there now unless forced to for work. I know many people who specifically cancelled their summer plans to travel to the US, including parents who had to tell their kids that they were no longer going to Disney World. My hair stylist, several of my co-workers, two personal friends, a handful of family members, etc... all are choosing to avoid the States. No wonder - we can't even trust that we won't be detained just for having opinions that go against the Trump administration's "policies". Why would anyone want to go be a tourist in a country whose government is literally doing all the same things that the Nazis did in the 1930s?

This Forbes article breaks down the loss of tourism better and the impacts in the coming months. Not only is Trump tanking the economy in real time, but the projections indicate he can keep these going for months, costing the US trillions of dollars and then he'll add those losses on to the national debt. Amazing! We'll be so respected around the world.

Might be easier for americans to get concert tickets with travel tanking. I hope more bands start coming north. I ain't going down there.

I have a guitar camp in North Carolina that I've already put thousands of dollars into, and can't get out of it. After that, I don't suspect I'll be back if/until the shitshow is over.

An hour before the close today $3,000,000 worth of $NVDA calls were aggressively sold

A few minutes ago $NVDA announced that Trump would not let them sell H20 chips to China tanking $NVDA

They aren't even trying to hide it

After #China scrapped US Beef Imports ($2.5 Billion, 31% of USA Export Market), now Japan & Korea are also turning to Australia.

    Ditto, Mexico looking to Argentina.

With those 4 markets, that's $5.4 Billion, 68% of USA's beef exports. Gone.

USA will never get it all back, if any.

    Ever.

Look, I wouldn't be as strident as my Swedish friend*, but it's also not as cut and dried as you suggest. Raising animals for food not only causes suffering, but it also has negative externalities for the environment. Having said that, I am a vegetarian and I can't think of a single instance where someone was lectured into vegetarianism.

isnt though? cut and dried like that?

why is it, that generally speaking, the religious, vegans and the like feel its ok to make statements out of the blue about others and the way they choose to live thats counter to the admonishers , but when the same behaviour is turned toward them its wrong?

besides, this thread is about fucksticks economic policies. one of which is going to severely hurt a segment of agriculture that the first post in this chain sought to point out. what it isnt about is the dietary choices of the members of this forum.  I'm almost certain theres a thread for that topic here. use that to speak down from on high instead, hmm?

I appreciate your choice but to me it is cut and dry. It comes down to minding your business and not calling someone’s dietary choices vile. Comes off as extremely condescending

After offering up a “zero-for-zero tariff” to avoid a trade war (which Trump refused), the European Commission has greenlit tariffs of up to 25% on:

Cigarettes from Florida, beef from Kansas and Nebraska, chicken from Louisiana, car parts from Michigan, and most importantly, soybeans.
