I also liked the spreadsheet / boardgame feel of Civ IV.  I didn't have a computer powerful enough to run Civ V when it came out, but I think Civ 6 has the Civ 4 feel to it after all the updates.  I recall having 3 ring binders of info and stats nearby when playing.

Civ 7 is not getting good praise from actual players ... even IGN only gave it 7 out of 10 (the way they hand out 8's and 9's to big studios, a score of 7 is a D minus report card from them).  The most common complaint theme I see is that this feels like early access and unfinished.  Bad and confusing UI.  No more sandbox Civ.  Limited map options.  Limited replay (HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE IN A CIV GAME???).

Well, I still play Civ 6 and enjoy it.   Be thankful for what you have.

Yeah, Civ 7 has been getting killed.  Lots of fun debates on social media over what the best release is.

I have been playing Factorio again.  Its a great, genius, spread-sheety type of game.  Its like a world-builder meets puzzle game with RPG elements.   Older, but lots of mods and I guess they released a ton of expansion recently.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Impressions after 10 hours:

    * If playing on PS5, play on “performance” mode in the graphics settings.  “Fidelity” mode looked worse and had more pop-in.

    * The game gives me the sense of awe and wonder that Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion did.

    * It’s a survival game, so there is action but this is NOT an elder scrolls game.  Actions have much broader consequences (crimes can get you branded or executed).

    * Be prepared for crafting, blacksmithing, etc.

    * So far fighting has been the weakest aspect of the game.  When in doubt, button mash to victory.

    * Most of the 10 hours has been learning the basic mechanics, finding my horse and dog and gawking at the stat menu.  I’m still not sure how the perk system works, but I will figure that out later and save points for now until I find my dog.

    * The save system was my biggest gripe with the last game.  This game uses the same mechanics, but saves more often … and there is a “save and quit” option in the pause menu that seems to work fine if you don’t have save potions or a bed nearby.

    * Hold down on the D-pad to activate your torch.  It gets really dark at night.

    * At inns, ask about staying longer and the option for a permanent bed becomes available for a fee.  You get a bed, free food and access to your loot locker (accessible from any room you own)

    * The sound and music is great.  Voice acting is superb.  Combined with facial animations, the emotion comes through.  The quests have interesting dialog.  You have to think like someone how lived in the year 1407 when choosing dialog.

So far I'm digging it.  It can be a pretty chill game.

Anyone jumping on the Switch 2 pre-order?  Prior to the PJ tour and other life costs, tough decision for me. But a new Mario Kart is tempting the hell out of me.

Nah, i'm gonna wait.  I got the original Switch early on and outside of the Zelda games, I barely played it.  The new Mario Kart sounds interesting though and the hardware does seem to be a pretty significant jump from the last one.

Definitely waiting. Don’t need a third copy of Breath of the Wild

I "registered my interest" on Nintendo's site ... of course I won't know until a month after regular pre-orders go live because NINTENDO.  I have had success with Target in the past   Best Buy site will turn into an instant crap-show.

Nintendo claims they are making enough Switch 2 to meet consumer demand, but we know that is nonsense.  I remember driving to a now defunct mid-west chain store in Amish country to find a Wii almost 3 years after they went on sale.  I resorted to the phone book and called every place I could possibly imagine and some store called ALCO miraculously had one so I drove several hours to get it.

Brought out my Wii-U again yesterday.

Why can't I beat cat-bowser in Super Mario 3D World

Why can't I get get pass fucking world 6 level 4 in Yoshis Wooly World.

I USED TO BE THE BEST IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD IN GOLDENEYE 64!

I restarted Pikmin 3 instead. I haven't played it in 3 years and didn't remember where I was or how everything worked. So was better to restart it.

Stopped playing rather abruptly, so a lot of stuff I own I have almost not played or haven't started at all.

Like Breath of the Wild. ZombiU. And a bunch of other games.

Sad that the online-service is down. The Wii-U largely was my Mario Kart machine.

Hardware wise it ticks all my boxes. (other than not having a cheaper, screen-less version)

But 90 euros for a game I read? Can't pay that for Mario Kart. So I will wait.

I'm tempted to get a switch 2...  but then I wonder if I should just get a steam deck

If the Switch 2 is successful (and basically it is an upgraded version of the beloved Switch) it should have a similar life cycle of around 8 years.  Based on what I've seen from the original Switch, the quality of their games are not based on the horsepower of the console so we are still getting more consistent and better quality games from Nintendo then we are from Sony's PS5 Pro.

Not as chrome and shiny, but more fun

I feel like the Steam Deck becomes obsolete after a few years to keep up with the graphics power race of the PC world.  But if you have a bunch of Steam Games or play PC more than console, it would make sense to go with the Deck.

I do about 98% of my Switch play on the TV.  Usually when I take it on a long trip, it doesn't get used.  I take my old 3DS now if I get the urge to play something and it doesn't take up much space.

That being said, I don't feel the urge to have a Switch 2 on day 1, but will get one if the opportunity presents itself.  They will still be making games for the Switch 1 market for years ... toooo many wallets to ignore.

I bought the Wii-U when the New Super Mario Bros U bundle had come and dropped in price. So I can wait for Switch 2 also.

And I'm sure my brother will buy Metroid Prime 4 on the original Switch, so I can play it on day one that way.

I see a lot of people are upset that the new Mario Kart is $80 ($90 for physical).  But before discussing the merits of capitalism, is time for a trip down memory lane ...  the year was 1995 ....

Sony should actually get some credit for dropping the game price "standard" to $40 when the PlayStation came out.

I remember Street Fighter II coming out in 1992 and calling Toys R Us and getting my parents to drive me to the big city so I could buy it for $90.  That said, I hope this is not the standard going forward, but if they knock a game out of the park I don't have a problem.

I think Donkey Kong Country 2 for $80 is a steal. What a series that was.

Fast forward 30 years and Sony is being sued for allegedly keeping digital game prices artificially high, again.

That said that is a cool ad. 1995 I was buying Saturn games.

Switch 2 is now delay due to tariffs.   My wallet is a little light from recently getting the Lego bug so this may be a blessing.

Just the pre-order date!  Release date remains the same.

Right, because they need time to figure out how much more they have to jack up the price.
