I just did a return (the first I've seen) where the rebate was given back to the dealer and they dealer reduces the price of the vehicle rather than the customer waiting until they file their tax return to get the rebate back on their filing.

So in this case Musk's company is getting the money from the gov't and he still holds the vehicles. The VIN is what triggers the credit so he would then have to sell those cars without any rebate incentive but it's still a bit suspect.

Did it work for that other company? I’m just trying to understand whether this has precedence before screaming “foul” from Tesla. To me, honestly, if Tesla does what you proposed, what’s the problem?

Not saying it's illegal but the rebate is obviously for the consumer and to encourage individuals to buy EVs. If Musk comes in and buys all of the vehicles and takes the rebate it's just supplementing his cash flow and also overinflating his sales.

If their program works like the US program then there would be no available rebate on those vehicles unless someone fraudulently changed the VINs.

So Musk (the richest man in the world?) is getting millions from the gov't. Will it benefit him? Maybe, maybe not.

Maybe Musk sees value there in buying a fleet of vehicles to give away to encourage people to vote like his million dollar giveaway in Wisconsin.

All I’m trying to say is, if it’s not illegal, I would expect not just Elon Musk but any prudent business person to try to take advantage of this situation and do the same, if they could float the capitol.

The red margins in those two Florida special elections were comfortable, but not nearly what they usually are in those districts. That is probably more an indictment on Trump than Elon, but that Wisconsin result is very satisfying.

I’m not too big on hope these days, but it gives me hope that at the very least this asshole can’t go someplace with his open wallet and unilaterally determine an outcome.

It’s not.  Kaul’s lawsuit went through several judges who had to recuse themselves because of their endorsements to Crawford.  Crawford herself had to recuse.  The suit was reviewed by a judge in a conservative district in the state.

LOL...trump is already kicking Musk to the curb. I know it was previously announced that Musk would step down from Doge in a few months but it sure seems like trump is creating distance.

Not sure I buy that the biggest funding source in GOP history is being kicked to the curb...probably just less public facing.

He's just trying to help Elon save Tesla's tanking stock price.  When the next critical election(s) come around, he'll definitely want to have Elon's funding for it.  Regardless of last night's result.

Pretty sure he stated that he would only be involved full-time for the beginning of DOGE. He'll still be a key figure in exposing and eliminating government wasteful spending from the previous admin just less in public.  Probably needs to address the insurrectionists that are burning Tesla cars and dealerships.  Reminds me of the 'peaceful" BLM movement, lol.

I'm not sure you understand what insurrectionists means. Not surprising.

the point of BLM was not violence.
the point of Jan 6 was violence.

the difference is pretty stark in my eyes.

    Exactly.

And as has been pointed out elsewhere, burning cars is now called "terrorism", but breaking into the capital with the intent to hang some lawmakers and beating and even causing the death of come Capitol police officers is called "patriotism".
    Riiiiiiiiight!

Oh, and how embarrassing when people use the term "terrorism" when they mean either sabotage or vandalism.
