The Education Dept.’s civil rights office is one of the U.S. government’s largest enforcers of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, investigating thousands of allegations of discrimination based on disability, race, gender and more each year.
The layoffs "will strip students of equitable education, place our most vulnerable at great risk and set back educational success that for many will last their lifetimes,” said Katie Dullum, a former deputy director of the Office for Civil Rights.

NEW: Trump wants to demolish FEMA.
He says the states will take care of disasters. So we went down to West Virginia to talk to people who have been slammed by historic flooding.
It turns out the state's flood protection fund is broke, and people are suffering._____________________________________SIGNATURE________________________________________________

🔥Rep. Deluzio isn’t buying VA Secretary Doug Collins’ BS.
How do you deliver care while cutting 80,000 staff? You don’t.
This is a blatant push to privatize the VA—costing more, with less oversight, and screwing Veterans out of the specialized care they earned._____________________________________SIGNATURE________________________________________________

RFK Jr. has removed the surgeon general’s advisory on gun violence from the HHS website. But Dr. Jerome Adams, who was surgeon general during the first Trump administration, pushed back, noting that gun violence is the leading cause of death for young people ages 1 to 19._____________________________________SIGNATURE________________________________________________

A billionaire member of Trump's Cabinet, on a podcast with his billionaire friends, just said that you shouldn't complain if they cut off your Social Security checks._____________________________________SIGNATURE________________________________________________

“I work for the president. I need to do what the president tells me to do,” Dudek said, according to the recording obtained by ProPublica.
“I’ve had to make some tough choices, choices I didn’t agree with, but the president wanted it and I did it.”

In the hours before IRS leadership fired some 7,000 employees for allegedly poor performance, a top IRS lawyer flagged officials that “no one” at the agency had done such an assessment.
The termination notice went out unchanged anyway.

On the Dept of Education:
Bash: So you’re not going to move them because the votes aren’t there?
McMahon: No, we‘ll work with Congress. We’ll find out where the laws govern.
Bash: You’d have to change the laws
McMahon: We are going to look to see how we are governed, and if we have to change the law, then we’ll find out.
Bash: The votes aren’t there.
McMahon: Well ..
Bash: It sounds like what people should know listening to you is none of what we’re talking about is going to happen._____________________________________SIGNATURE________________________________________________

In the two months since he was confirmed as the E.P.A.’s administrator, Lee Zeldin has announced his intention to roll back dozens of environmental rules and to shrink his agency’s spending by two-thirds. Zeldin’s assault on the E.P.A. is so broad that it could affect everything from arsenic pollution to zebra-mussel control. But the administrator has trained his heaviest ammunition on efforts to limit climate change. To carry out this bloody deed, the E.P.A. is planning to rescind a set of Biden-era rules aimed at curbing CO2 emissions from power plants, unravel another set of rules meant to curb emissions from cars and trucks, and revise the way that the government assesses the damages of climate change. Most gruesomely of all, the E.P.A. wants to revisit what’s known as the “endangerment finding”—which concluded that CO2 and other greenhouse gases are a threat to the public’s health and welfare, and which became the basis of the agency’s efforts to regulate the harmful substances. With the help of the E.P.A., the Trump Administration is doing everything it can to make emissions grow again. Exclusive: Days before Republicans took the helm of the US SEC, five commissioners of the agency held a closed-door vote on whether to sue Elon Musk. Four of them voted yes, three sources said. The fifth — Republican Mark Uyeda, now the acting head of the SEC — voted no https://reut.rs/41Vae9Y_____________________________________SIGNATURE________________________________________________
