  • I did leave out David Cross (purely an accident) but love his stuff too. I love the sarcasm. Who here has seen the Aristocats? That's where I found a couple of new guys. That was my first introduction to Doug Stanhope.

Same for Stanhope. Great flick, by the way.
  • The best guy to see live is Dave Attell. He owns the room when he's up there. He's like Louie where other comedians know how funny he is

I saw him twice before all the scandal. I have to say that he is hilarious.

Saw him a year before the scandal; absolute worst comedy/concert/musical/play/game/etc I'd ever seen.  It was a pop up show at the ATL Fox Theatre announced with just a couple weeks notice.

He opened with a 10 minute ramble on abortion; "I think women should even be able to kill small children", then compared abortion to taking a dump "How do you tell the difference?"

"Why did the chicken cross the road? Because an angry black man was behind him. So the chicken began to ran and crossed the road, but the black man was just walking home...the chicken realized it was a racist...and then the black man ate the chicken"

"True story, I was on the subway in NYC yesterday, standing, and my junk was right in front of a woman sitting down...I started gyrating my hips and then she pointed at my junk. I looked down and my fly was open. OH WAIT, my fly is even down right now!!!" Then he fidgeted with his fly for a few minutes on the stage for more laughs

I fully expected him to come back out and declare this was all an experiment to see how bad the material could be and still get laughs from the crowd.

I'll admit, most of the crowd was eating it up, but several folks near us were just as dumfounded.

he did that chicken joke during his SNL monologue. I actually thought it was fucking funny.

and he was also probably networking some new material to see what worked. shows announced with very little notice or at smaller venues they often do that.

It’s definitely a joke…I wouldn’t say it’s a very clever one. He’s a smart comedian, so I’m surprised that one made it to SNL. Sometimes comedians, especially well established ones, just want to get through those things without burning any real material. He was HUGE around that time with his tv shows and all his specials.

Saw him at a small comedy club after the scandal.  I don’t recall the jokes but remember it was a kind of fun evening.

But what's the joke?  I'm not saying it's offensive at all, but what's funny about it, what's the humor, what's the irony?  To me it's nothing more than a string of words, like reading the phone book.

Is the joke just the stereotype that African Americans like chicken?  Is that it?

OK, I get it now after re-watching it way too many times.  I finally saw the punchline "you can't blame chickens for being suspicious, their murder rate is 100%"...okay, now it's somewhat funny, took a long time to get there, and I swear that part wasn't in the version I was at.

It's funnier to sort of trap people into watching you jagoff

    (Not at all, if course.)

Always loved his comedy and the whole thing.  Couldn't understand his compulsion and found it off putting.
We all have our issues but that was a pretty strange one.
Hope he isn't randomly starting to whack it in front of people any longer.

The love he receives is the love that is saved
