Justifications are for someone trying to defend unprecedented behavior. Biden’s actions are in no way illegal like Trump's were, and also, still hypocritical after dems whined when they thought Trump was going to preemptively pardon people during his term. He didn't and faced prosecution, albeit unsuccessful in some cases due to outside factors.HughFreakingDillon said:It seems hard for some to understand that biden never would have had to take the extraordinary steps he took if it weren’t for the threats of the incoming administration. With respect to "crying wolf," Trump actually did try to steal the election. He's on tape asking the Georgia Secretary of State to "find" the exact number of votes he needed to win the state. He signed off on submitting fake slates of electors in multiple states. He actually took those confidential documents and then continually obstructed the government's efforts to retrieve them. Just because a bunch of unethical, amoral fellow travelers in his party decided that the rule of law doesn't apply to him, it doesn't change the fact that he committed multiple crimes. Any objective person should be able to see this.
And any argument about equivalency with respect to pardons specifically is out the window now that Trump has pardoned a bunch of violent people who attacked the Capitol, including those who assaulted police officers.
My brother is former NYPD and there had never been a shooting of an unarmed black person by police where he didn't argue that no one can judge an officer because no one knows exactly what the officer was feeling and seeing in the moment they made the decision to pull the trigger. This same brother complained to me two weeks ago that the problem in this country is that no one is held accountable for their actions anymore, citing his belief that Black Lives Matter protesters were not punished for their acts of disorder and violence after the death of George Floyd. When I mentioned that this was an odd complaint to hear from a Trump voter in light of Trump's promise to pardon the January 6 convicts who assaulted police officers, he went into a rant about how the guy who shot Ashli Babbitt was a bad cop and everybody knows it. I realized he's so far down the rabbit hole that he's a lost cause. I can only imagine what my brother would have felt was justified if a BLM protester was climbing through a smashed window as part of a mob breaching the Capitol. It's a disgrace.I gather speed from you fucking with me.0 -

Misinformation? So the pardons aren't preemptive? Go ahead and enlighten me then about my disgusting comment. Unless you want to wordsmith preemptive in this case to hypotheticals that may have occurred so then it would be true, but either way, still preemptive.Lerxst1992 said:

I'm not comparing the actions of Trump to Biden. Trump is a pile of shit who has freed violent offenders who tried to overthrow the capitol and Biden still doesn't get a pass just because he didn't do anything overtly as terrible. If all of these people truly think Trump is the end of democracy, then why did they just do the whole dog and pony show yesterday? This peaceful transfer of power narrative is all smoke and mirrors BS. Trump didn't show up 4 years ago and pretend he was a decent person because he's not, but yesterday, the peaceful transition of power was not as it seems. This is a power grab by a conman and his minions who are bankrolled by tech billionaires. That's what is disgusting, not me still having the audacity to challenge Biden's excess use of power to preemptively pardon family he claims is innocent. Both things can be wrong and still not be equal in scope and breadth.
If we want democracy to stand, then it should be allowed to play out through the processes set-up, but if we are so disparaged that those processes are corrupted, then none of this will matter anyway and is just stalling the inevitable end result. It's a hopeless situation...0 -
